My advice is to pick up a KKM kit for half the cost of the KN. The KN gen IIs do come with a heatshield and new airtube though. Not worth the extra $150 IMO.

but the kn are also smog legal in all the states

Very true. But the KKM is basically the same. Put a KN sticker on it ;)

wheres the best place i could check out some info on the kkm's?

yeah, but where he lives in PA they dont have strict emissions (if they have emissions at all out there.)

just so you know alphabets, i have a kkm and lived in the philly area (up until last summer, but my truck is still registered there) where emissions are really strict and i have always passed with my kkm on my truck.

what about comparison wise. are they equal?

KKM to KN gen 1, yes.

Like I said before, the KN gen 2 comes with a heatshield and tube. The tube won't help but the shield will help a bit. I made my own with $5 worth of aluminum.

The KKM is the better deal, the heat shield is a pipe dream.

ok, im not trying to bash on you guys or anything, i know you mean good when you get a k&n kit...but.....it cant do anygood. its the intake manafold that limits what you can take in, not the filter.....

The stock airbox, MAS (91-94), and TB limit airflow much more than the intake manifold. No offense, but you're wrong on this one bud ;)

Incorrect.

I agree with Al and Alec.. After pulling out my stock air box, it is obvious how restrictive it is. It sucks through a trumpet like tube that is maybe 2" in diameter and its tucked way up behind the passenger side headlight. With my Magnaflow exhaust (Yeah Alec, I got it) and my KKM, that SOHC came to life... rumble rubmle rumble rumble...

<--- Audio_1 are you joking?

Hokie, how does it sound? Do you have a sound clip?

aldive is wrong, alec is correct...

but you never know.. aldive has his own dyno in his basement... and computers that rival the best government computers in his truck as well

Naw B, I need to get a sound clip though. Sounds great, you fire it up and it has a nice burble at idle and blips of the throttle sound great. There is some resonance though, 1800 and 3 grand are the peaks in the resonance, the 3 grand can be a little loud when going up a steep grade and its stuck between gears. Not near as loud as Flowie's though... but I really like it with the KKM on there now! And it was $129 for 2.5" catbacks installed (welded) at a local shop (with a lifetime warranty). Can't argue with that!

Awsome (hijacking this thread)... over stock is it much louder? Could it be taken as offensively loud?

Glad to see someone else likes their Magnaflow.

Mine is a bit loud at those RPMs too, but only annoying on long grades like you said. But any aftermarket exhaust would do that too.
