My dad said if i could sell my truck and buy the K5 without ANY money out of his pocket i could get one.

I was offered 4k by a kid here at skool for my truck.

Reasons i want a K5:
Cheap to lift- like 400$ for an 8" lift
33x12.5 STOCK
Nice Motors
Nice Vehicles

Reasons i want to keep teh X:
Nice Vehicle
Umm.......

I jsut had an new transmission for it bout 2 mons ago..

Do yall think 4k is a good price? its a 1991 XLT

Also is the K5 a good vehicle ?? My dad had one and said he loved it and that was what i was gunna get for my first vehicle but ended up getting the X....

welp lets see... 8in lift, not lots of flex i'm gonna guess. They've got 10bolt front axles i think, and they aint the strongest. I've seen 32s done stock with a nice bit of trimming. Most likely will have a 305 or 350. Tons of aftermarket motor parts. I think they've got a dated look in them, and I know the width of the vehicle is alot bigger than the sploder. Alot wider...

If your truck is stock then 4k is great. I had a Bronco, big lift, but like my X better. Good luck

the one i was looking at( but out of my price range) has 33x12.5 Stock...

and i dotn really need all the flex in the world... In mudding flex isnt really need as much as rockcrawling.

And i mean i'd spend bout 1000$ on lift my Explorer the same hiegt i would the K5 and still only be able to run 35" tires on the sploder

and the k5 will only cost me around 500$ and i could run 38"

also you think 4k for my truck is good ??

PEACE

my X has a 3" b/l
31" A/Ts
KKM
Spare Tire Carrier
sound system

thats bout it for major mods

Get the K5, having an X as a mudder is a waste of time, especially with that snow plow of a front suspension. You will not have v8 power and solid axles, and you can upgrade so easily, just get a larger axle and "slap" it under there.

Lets see...

K5 Blazer is a wicked tough off road beast, or can be built into one for about 1/8 the cost of an Ex.

But there are other things to consider.
Obviously an Explorer is about 500 times better as a daily driver, K5 doesnt get but 8 mpg if you are lucky with mudders and a 350 carbed.

If you are going to use iot for 90% off road you cant go wrong.

If you plan to go in mud 5 times a year, I would keep the Ex.

So it just depends on what you want to use it for.
Ex = practical daily driver

K5= not

410- i will go mudding atleast Everyweekend.

also right now my MPG is around 13

this will also be my daily driver to get me to School and to the mudholes

PEACE

well dont forget, a K5 blazer will have ALOT of maintenece to do....its not a brand new car you know.

its a whole different animal to work on, probably much easier and cheaper than the Ex as far as parts and availability.
But you will sacrifice alot, ride quality, interior quality and noise, etc etc...

Sounds like you already made your mind up though....just dont be in a huge rush. Take your time shop around....

The K5 is a BIG heavy truck, they are tough as nails, but they dont always fit on the trail if you know what I mean....plus driving one across the state is not gonna be as fun as the Ex.

Shop around ands consider all your options.
Your Ex should get better than 13 MPG, depending on your tires, gears, tire pressure, state of tune, and most of all the way you drive. But dint think a 350 powered K5 is going to get good mileage...because its a HUGE pig when it comes to that!!!

yea im not in a BIG rush.... i just dont think im gunna waste my time lifting it because i know im gunna get me a K5.

also i dont know why my MPG is 13?? its been tuned up quite a few times

has 3.55 gears
31" tires
and a KKM
and Flex a lite fan

and bout the maintance my X has alread y had it share of maintanace.
Starter
a/c
trans
radiator
fan
headgasket

Thanx for the advice keep it coming

well I think your speedo is off with 3.55 and 31's.
Not too bad though..

So your mileage is probably not 13

I see in your profile that your Explorer is a 91. 91 was the last year for the K5 so you wouldnt have any older of a vehicle. A buddy of mine at school has one and it is an awsome rig. The interior is pretty comfy and offers all the conviences my ex does, nice cloth seats carpet, and ac. If u get a 89.5-91 you get the 31 spline 10 bolts and a throttle body 350 which gives u the idle anywhere convinence of a EFI. I think the k5 is a awsome truck and u cant beat the parts availablilty. You can practicly rebuild your whole truck from off the shelf parts at your local auto parts store. I love my x buy i wouldnt mine having a 90 k5 with the same money in it

Mind is made up on what im doing

but thats on a hush hush level...

so this thread is kinda closed( but you can keep posting if you want)

PEACE

On another note, sure the 8in of lift might be cheap, but, it's going to be a brutal ride. My friend who had the K5 then had a 1/2chevy from the late 80s had 6in of lift to clear 35s... sure them ground hawgs threw mud like none other, but get some air ride seats if you want kidneys... offroad, rough is rough, but onroad is brutal.

K5 all the way man, I want to buy one of these beasts some day.....make sure you get the 350ci engine, and probably the turbo 350 or 400 tranny, then you engine/tranny combo will be pretty much bullitproof...And I think most (if not all) have removable hardtops...that just frickin kicks ass!

i used to have a 90 model. had 33's on it when i bought it with no lift and no trimming on 8" wheels. if you get one, either get a 70's model (D44 front and 12bolt rear) or an 87-91 (EFI). FYI- i ran a 6" Skyjacker softride on mine and it rode better than stock until i put the 35x15.50 SX's on it. im not a fan of Skyjacker, but their .5ton chevy front leaves ride awesome.
