Keyless Entry (Securicode) Door Pad Not working

Forgive as I have only skimmed through this thread, but, my issue seems a bit different than others. I have a 2014 Explorer XLT, I can unlock the vehicle just fine through the keypad, however, pressing 7+8 and 9+0 simultaneously to lock does not work. The indicator light at the top does light up, so I believe the keypad is working. Work i've had done lately: battery replacement, rear passenger door power lock replacement, and mice chewed up wiring causing engine misfires so wiring was replaced. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of to try at the moment is a negative battery cable disconnect for a few minutes before reconnecting. Unfortunately, you will likely lose some save memory settings. How long ago was the battery changed? If you did the battery replacement, did you leave the vehicle sit idle for an 8 hour or longer period? Unsure if that is the issue. :dunno: Battery Replacement / Upgrade - Battery Re-Learn

SECURICODE keypad has never worked!

I bought at 2013 Explorer in August of 2012 and from my first attempt to use the keypad code on the door it never worked. Since then time has gone by, life has been busy, I never took it in to get looked at, and now here I am out of warranty and it is still not working! :(

It lights up, locks itself when I touch the numbers too many times (like it is supposed to do) and even let me add a new personal code to it from my touch screen in the vehicle. Yet STILL, neither code works, it does not lock, it does not unlock, nor does it open lift gate.

It just lights up, stares at me, and laughs.

ANY IDEAS OUT THERE?

Mine was same. Some buttons didnt work. Program a code that uses only the buttons you know already work when you lock it. Worked for me.

Thank you!!

New battery was in early January and I’m positive it worked after that in late February as occasionally I take my dog with me places and leave the car run and lock the doors with the keypad. I’ll try the negative battery disconnect and see what happens.

So, I tried the negative battery disconnect, now if i press the lock buttons on the keypad quickly in a row it will lock and then unlock right away. I feel like this could be a good sign, but not sure where to go from here.

Are you pressing them simultaneously or one after the other? Because to lock is simultaneous

Thank you so much for all of your assistance!!

You're welcome, good luck figuring out what went wrong.

Edit: also, when using FORScan, do be careful about what you're doing. At any point, if you are unsure and cannot find the answer and feel uncomfortable proceeding, bring it in to the dealer. It'll cost you, but still less than bricking a module.

It seems the circumstances have changed slightly enabling you to lock the door but it doesn't help much if the doors automatically unlock again. Haven't come across that here before. Not sure what could be causing that.

My 2013 Explorer XLT has the recessed keypad (not the buttons that stick out) - see attached picture. The keypad lights work and it will "occasionally" accept the code, but getting worse every month. It's now to the point where it will only work about every 20th time... which means it times out (goes blinking). Occasionally, it will also lock using the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons, but again, not very often.

Any recommendations on how to fix? Is there a small battery that is maybe getting weak, or maybe wiring is loose? Or is this a sign that it's about to completely go out and I need to replace by buying new parts?

If new parts, I have a couple friends that could help, but would need to ensure I buy the right parts -- if anyone knows, a link would be awesome :) Thanks in advance for any help or guidance on how to fix this (trying to avoid taking it to the dealership, but will if needed).

Thanks - Alan

Hi karebear865,

As others have suggested, it sounds like it's dealer time. Additionally, I'd like to push this up the line to your regional customer service manager. To make that happen, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll do the rest.

Welcome to the Forum Terry.
Unfortunately, Crystal and the other Ford Service reps left the Forum about 3 years ago. I believe the pad is held on with 2 sided tape. Has yours stopped working? It's a bit ironic in that you are trying to remove it while others have trouble getting it to stay on.:)

Hi Peter..thanks for the update...yes mine is not working..i saw several posts where users said they broke it taking it off..was wondering if i can get it off first without breaking it to check it out..i know it has the two sided tape...just planing on looking into it..didnt know if it was "guaranteed" to break in half if i pull it. Thanks Peter

I have a 2018 Explorer Sport and The key pad on the drivers door stopped working. The numbers light up but does not respond to entry code when i press the numbers. At times the numbers flicker when entering the five-digit code.

Any suggestions?

Hi Mike. Are you able to lock the vehicle using the keypad as per the Manual's instructions?
