I know by default that we can't use the factory remote but supposedly there is a way by cutting a wire off the RAP module that will let us use the factory remote while the engine is running.. I found a wiring diagram from a 98-01 RAP module from this thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84967&highlight=RAP+wiring not sure if the wire colors are the same but I can't figure out which wire to cut to allow me to use the factory remote.

I have a 98 with a factory alarm. I can use the keyless remote to lock the doors and then re-enter the vehicle while it is running. I wonder why you can't? Maybe that mine also has the remote start on it also?

Are you sure you have a factory alarm. I have always been able to use the factory remote. But, anytime I had too install an after market system, I was not able too use the remote. If you bought it used, I bet you have an after market system.

Yup the 95-97 I believe had a safety feature that prevented them from working while the engine was on..

my 2001 wont work, kind of makes the panic button useless if i were being car jacked

We are talking about being able too unlock the doors. None of the cars I have ever owned, has the panic button worked when the engine is running. This is a safe guard; so if the remote is in your pocket it can not be pressed by something else in your pocket while driving. The panic button does not work on my 04 either while the engine is running. I just tried it too be sure.

I had a remote starter installed by the dealer and on the keypad there's an unlock button on it. With the car running I am able to unlock the doors.

It's funny how it acts differently than the factory remote. When I push the open door button all the doors unlock unlike the stock one that only unlocks the driver's side then when pushed again unlocks all. And as I found out the hard way the stock keypad doesn't unlock the doors while running.

I find it weird how they have different behaviors.
