keys locked in car, need help

Do none of you guys have the credit card sized plastic key that came with the Explorer?

I beleive it came with every ford vehicle up until 1995 or so.

It is very handy, as it goes in your wallet, thereby staying with you if you don't keep your wallet in the vehicle.

I also have the keypad on the door. I start up my truck to let it warm up, then lock it all the time. Never had a problem.

I have to agree , it does work...I went to the garage to try it...statred her up locked the doors...entered the code on the keypad...bam!...I was in!

D

wtf, mine wont work when it is running

Just out of curiosity, it's still February. How can you be out of AAA uses for the year already?

What credit card sized plastic key? I have a '94, and to my knowledge we don't have anything like that. I'll have to ask around though

It was a blue plastic credit-card sized key, that came in every owners manual when new. Or at least that is the theory...

It has the shape of a blank key in the center to match the door key/ignition key, and it has to be cut to the same cut as your original key.

The older ones had two keys in the card, one for doors, one for ignition, for the older, smaller, Ford keys.

lockouts

Having been in the towing industry for 20 years seen this a lot.
1st Option call a good towing company and for around 25 to 35 dollars they will open it for you without any damage(broken lock rods, damaged wiring in door, broken windows, torn window gaskets Damaged air bags and scratched paint, etc...)

2nd Choice ROCK (most insurance companies will pay for glass damage)

future reference
Dont bother with one of those magnetic holders(everytime you need it it has fallen off)
Better choices Spare key screwed into fender well
spare key duct taped to back of license plate
spare key cable ties to undercarige of vehicle

I know this wont help you now, but for future i would get magnetic key holder. Its standing operating procedure with every car i get, save you some headaches.

Nothing like giving a thief that is out to steal only your license plate your whole vehicle. My personal preference is the key in the wallet. I carried a spare key in my wallet for every vehicle I have owned up until I got my Explorer with the keypad on the side.

Another one for the key in the wallet. I've kept a spare key in my wallet since I started driving, and I have one only been locked out once...when I left both the keys and my wallet in the truck. :fire: Let me tell you something, 87 Rangers are HARD to break into (without destroying anything). The cop that stopped to help me couldn't even get the door open. Had to call my mom to bring me my extra key.

problem most people i have encountered use the wallet key and then forgwet to put it back in their wallet.
or in my case dont want to carry a half dozen keys in your wallet. Not to mention when someone borrows your car and locks the keys inside. and for the one who thinks loosing a plate is a problem. I have lived in the boston area and driving commercialy for over 20 years
and have not lost a plate in over 20 years

I can't believe this thread is still going. LOL:D

I lost three plates in the 4 years that I lived in my apartment in Toldeo (about 60 miles south of Detroit) while my vehicles were parked in the parking lot.

Keypad and license plate screws

After almost losing my plate (they had it about halfway off), I now use security style stainless sheet metal screws (2 off-centered holes in the screw head). They also have a tapered pan-style head.

Although I didn't order it, my X Sport came with the keyless entry pad. It has become more than a convenience, it is a neccessity. I heard you can retro this system on some years. Never get locked out again!

LOL, I wonder if that guy ever got into his X?! Some threads have a life of their own.
