So today started out like any other normal day, went to school and...... So when school came out i went to my truck and to my suprise it wouldn't start. I grabed my friend for a jump and that wasn't helping either. So after paying some attention to it, i quickly figured out that it wasn't the battery because the engine was turning over and the dash cluster was lighting up but not completly starting. The lights were comming on and it was just something unexplainable. So i called AAA to come tow it(well it took them 2 hours to come). So i started to fooling around with my truck. I started it up with one foot on the gas and the other slightly pressured on the brake and then let the brake go. It started up fine but i was reving the engine up so i then let off the gas and the car stoled. So now i rulled out a gas pump failure becuse the gas reved up the engine. So now i know that i have lost my Idle (i think)...so AAA got there and towed the truck to my driveway. any1 know where i go from here like what the real problem is if its not what i though or if i was right what do i need to fix.....??????

I'd say your Idle Air Control valve is probably bad. Fairly common problem They run around $50.

has this happened to you or is it just your common knowledge and if its the Idle Air Control valve is it something i can replace or have to bring to a shop for replacement?

Back to basics:

Check fuel pressure
Check spark
then look at air

I highly doubt a bad IAC would cause a non start condition? Unless I missed something.

I replaced the IAC valve twice on my black Explorer. The first time it was stalling mostly when you had let off the gas entirely after an extended period of steady throttle. Usually right before a sharp bend, or left turn  The second it would stall randomly, and took longer to start. When it just turned over if you put it to the floor it would usually start right up. Sometimes it would stall out. The IAC valve can be changed in about 10 minutes and would be difficult to mess up.

ok so it sounds like it can be done by myself. im gonna go to the local auto place and see what the cost for a replacement IAC is and what ever other info i need. any 1 know of a write up on the site on how to replace it...or even where its located in my truck(i have never heard of it until now).

Thanks

I had the OHV engine, so I can't point you to the exact location. I suggest you do a search. There is a ton of info on them. You can clean it to see if it fixes the problem. Usually a cleaning is a temp. fix, but it would let you know replacing it wouldn't be a waste of money.

IAC on SOHC engine is directly on top of the upper intake manifold (plastic) underneath that big plastic 4.0L shield thing :)

ook thanks
