I installed my KKM intake and installation went fine. When I started my truck, it was fine and I could hear the filter breathing loud. I gave it gas and the response time was horrible, then when i let off the rpm's dipped down low and came back and it was idling sorta rough. I took it out and put my stock back in as I had places to go and did not want to have problems.

Another problem, the instructions came with a picture that shows the air intake pipe coming from over the radiator, my 2002 4.0SOHC comes from the firewall direction right to the airbox and so then the support bracket had no where to mount and it was able to bounce around.

KKM is a member, if you search for KKM it should point you inthe direction of him so you can PM him with questions. Thats my suggestion. My guess is that the computer needs some time to adjust and make changes. Not sure though, just a guess.

sometimes those cones can have to much oil on them when there new and what happens is it gets sucked up through the cold air tintake tube and some oil can hit your mass air meter senser which is just a little wire bar and messes up the reading to the computer for your air and fuel ratios. if this is your problem it's an easy 1 minute fix. this happened to me with a bbk cold air kit on my 4.6 mustang and the car ran like crap until i fixed it.

I'm unsure if the sensor would have oil on it, as I just took the KKM filter off, and put all the stock stuff back in, and it ran fine, without me cleaning the MAS. I will try to PM KKM. Thanks.

Have you tried your intsallation again? It will take the ECU a short while to remap the fuel and adjust to the increased airflow. If your stock filter was leaning a bit on the dirty side, the increased airflow could be the culprit. I would suggest a re-install and take it for a drive and then report back.

I'm thinking about taking mine off as well. Every time I hit the throttle you can hear the loud whistle/whine from the metal body (or the sensor). It doesn't make that noise with the stock setup.

The whistle and whine you hear through the open filter is not normal, but this noise can be eliminated by cleaning or replacing the faulty IAC valve.

How do you know the IAC is bad?

I assume you are asking the best way to tell when one is bad....

My experience has shown that cleaning will usually resolve this issue, which of course I recommend first, and if this does not resolve the issue, I usually replace them and the noise goes away. I have never tried any type of resistance test with a meter, but as many threads that are on this site about the IAC, I am sure someone has a sure fire way of telling a true dead one.

No, not at all. I wanted to know why you blamed the IAC.

blitzk complained of whistle and whine, which is usually not present with our system and other open element filters unless the IAC needs attention.

whats the proper method of cleaning the IAC?

i have a kkm setup on my 04 xlt after install and computer reset works just fine no problems at all

Filleyboy,
Did you remember to disconnect your battery for a minimum of 10 min. so that your computer will reset and remap the air/fuel curve? If not, that's your problem. If so, put the filter back on (and disconnect the battery) then drive the truck for 10 min, and see if the computer remaps it correctly.

Where is the IAC on the 02+ (04) V6's?

Where is the IAC on the 02+ (04) V6's?

If it is the same as on my '99 SOHC, its on top of the upper intake manifold.

Yeah, I've seen those pics... but my 04 looks nothing like those.

I've cleaned the IAC's on a few fords (escort and mustang), but cannot find it on my 04 X.
