kkm true rev sport induction kit?

I have never seen a 5.0 engine in person to look at the factory airbox, but im sure that the same rules will apply in your application with one minor difference...

this mod on a 5.0 will prob sound AMAZING !!!

if you could take a picture(s) of your airbox we could prob tell you where to cut the holes...

I did this mod and didnt disconnect the battery just removed and cut out, Should I disconnect the battery for 15 minutes to let the pcm reset? I read somewhere that your supposed to disconnect the battery to do the job then connect after and drive for 10 miles to let the pcm retrieve the new information. Is this correct. Should I notice a bigger difference after doing this? And do i only just have to disconnect the battery and wait 15 minutes?

it cant hurt to disconnect the battery for like 5 min... then let the X idle for a few minutes... then drive...

for best results a tune would really make it super effective, but im happy with mine right now...

Before I saw this posting I was about to spend about $200 for the k&n cold air intake, but thankfully I found this before buying. I went ahead and altered the container and got some pics of the finished work-
new owner of a K&N product :D -

general overview of air filter location on a 2005 ford explorer-

i drilled 12 holes on the front side-

and 10 on the fender side-

so over all i've got 22 holes plus the bigger hole where the silencer use to be  -

i'm just wondering if there enough holes there or if i should just go head and place some more around the empty areas on the front and fender side
i did give it a short run after everything was put back in place and i noticed more sound coming from the rear exhaust pipes, plus the explorer reached 70mph in a noticeably shorter time than before. i didnt notice to much noise coming from the engine, just a low wind sound while driving, seemed alot of it was from the exhaust which is leaving me to wonder if i should go head and add some more holes or not.

so this might be a dumb question but, is the silencer that rubber tube coming out from the front of the box? O yeah, and how does this effect the truck in the long run? does it put extra wear on the engine?

yea the only tube at the bottom of the container is the silencer. about the effects in the long run- as long as the filter is in good shape i would say this wouldnt put any extra wear on the engine since its actually allowing it to "breath" better than before. Its really the filter that may get more wear since the chances of catching more than the normal amount dust and loose dirt entering the container. As long as air filter maintenance is kept up this shouldn't cause any real stress.

the K&N filter chrge kit is a great buy... I like to clean my filter every oil change just to keep it at optimum performance

ok cool. im probably gonna do it this week.

If you still have the stock exhaust... this mod will make your ride sound a little bit beefier, and when you punch the gas, you feel a nice little TQ grunt in the low end

since i have installed my Magnaflow Muffler, i lost that little extra grunt on the low end, but even with the muffler alone, my X pulls harder about 500 RPMs higher in the top end...

no the greatest solution, but is better than restrictive factory intake...

ya im still running the stock exhaust but im thinking about getting a flowmaster 50 series muffler. but i still gotta find time to cut the holes in the box. ill let y'all know how it goes.

even if you dont cut holes... it takes 3 minutes to remove the silencer...

Where the heck is this silencer thing on a '97 OHV? I can't find it.

i have never seen a OHV motor, so i have no idea...

this would be my first time doing any real work on my 03 x xlt. I don't think I'm ready to start drilling in my stock box but I do want to take out that silencer asap.

drilling holes into the factory box really wont harm your X...

I actually just did the mod to my friend's V8 02' this afternoon... he loves it

how does ur friends 02 v8 sound? does his have stock exhaust?

I drilled my friends box like ( joe doe 2010 ), and yes he has a stock exhaust still...

he is running a paper filter though, but he will be installing a true K&N Intake in about 2 weeks... he just wanted to see if there was any difference, and so far he says he likes it alot...

does it sound any louder tho?

i have never seen a OHV motor, so i have no idea...

:censored:

I can't find it. What does it look like on yours? I don't even see anything that it could possibly be. I have the round kind of filter and all that, if that helps.
