I have a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer Premium 4.6 L. I am considering placing a KNN Cold Air Intake on it. KNN only lists a model for the 2006 Explorer 4.6L Are they not the same under the hood? Has anybody installed one on a Mounty. Thanks

Yes, I believe they are the same.

Your sig says you have a V8 '06 Explorer and '06 Mountaineer, park 'em next to each other and compare. If by some miracle it doesn't work on the mounty, throw it on the Ex!!

Thanks for the quick response. Comparing them was my next thing. As far as installing it on the Explorer that's my wife's car and she is not into performance or any modifications to her BABY. Thanks again Dan:thumbsup:

It's exactly the same under the hood, so there shouldn't be a problem with it.

I would try to drive it with the filter out to see if theres any improvement in power, im guessing the gains will be seen around 4700 rpm and up thats about it.

I installed one on my 4.0L X and didn't notice one ounce of difference.

On a side note I also had the K&N airfilter before the the cold air and didnt notice anything there either. I dont get why people swear up and down by K&N.

Basically, If you were adding a vortech blower, exhaust and cams then the new intake would give you maybe 20 hp. and that would be in the upper rpm range.

I installed a KKM on my 4.0L and I honestly didn't notice any difference. Of all the vehicles I've had, the only time I noticed a difference with an intake was with the AEM Brutforce on my F-250.
