Hi all:

While waiting on my 18x9 '03 Cobras to get here, I've been researching tires. Everyone seems to like the 255/55-18 size, even though it's a bit smaller than stock (3%). Does anybody have experience with Kumho Ecsta STX tires? I can get a pretty good deal on them at my local Sears. I've used Michelin, Bridgestone and BF Goodrich tires on my other cars, but local selection is limited in the size I want, and what I can find is quite a bit more expensive. Tire Rack rates the Kumho's pretty well (2nd in class), but none of the ratings are from an Explorer owner.

Thanks in advance,
John.

I love mine, 265/60/18s,great quite road tire

i use the Kumho Venture MT's, they are freekin awsome man. hardly any road noise, and hardly any vibrations. Ive had them for 9000 miles now and they still look brand new. and they are CHEAP.

They proform just as good as the BFG MT's and are like 30 bucks cheaper.

Thanks.

I didn't look at that size, though. Hmm... Tire size calculator says that's only 1.5% off. People seem to have rubbing issues with 275/55/18's, so I went with 255's. How do yours fit?

Regards,
John.

I have a set on my other SUV in 265/60/17. So far they have been great tires in the rain and exceptional on dry pavement, not the greatest in heavy snow but that is not what they are made for. The price is great. I have about 17k on the tires so far and do not see alot of wear. Pretty hard to beat for the price.

Are these considered "all season" tires or just "summer tires" ?

They are sticky perf tires, run um in the rain, run um in the summer, work for me

i used to run kumho ecsta 712s on my firebird, totally different tire and size but same company. they were really good tires for the price (about 83 each on tirerack)

I run the kumho ecstas on my ranger, very nice tire with no probs. I am sure the stx is comparable.

i run kumho venture at's i love them. kumho makes a great tire for their price.

I got this for the Rav4. Kuhmo Ecsta 711. Nice tires but NOT for snow use by ANY means!

and what size?

btw do you think that a 275 60 17 on cobra 17x9 25 offset will have rubbing issues on a 95 limited?

thanks

Yeah, very nice rims. Never seen them up close.

I've got Kumho Venture M/T 31x10.5x15 and am very happy with them. The majority of my driving is on road and they do very well. They're loud, but what M/T isn't? Offroad they do amazing. Mud is nothing to these, same goes for snow. The price can't be beat. Something like $95 from TireRack? I read some very good reviews and will buy another set when the tread's gone. They also wear real well!

Update:

I put on the Ecsta's last weekend. They are great, so far. Pretty quiet, and great traction wet or dry. My only complaint is that they are very stiff. The ride is definately much firmer than before, almost too much. However, I'm getting used to it. Also, I switched from mushy Goodyears on 16" wheels to 18's, so that may have something to do with the stiffness. I recommend them.

Regards,
John.
