LED Puddle Light Tutorial Now Online

Just ordered 50 white, Super Bright 10mm 130000mcd LEDs. Going to make some puddle lights..I have a plane Jane xls, so have to figure how to mount them (unless I get some junkyard xlt mirrors with everything. Going to the interior lights, license plate lights,3rd brake light and backup lights. I should have enough...I hope
Under $18, not bad
I made a booboo and ordered red ones with the same spec few months ago.
Going to use them on the inside edge of my doors, so when opened they shine towards cars. Maybe I will wire up a board to make them blink. Have to find a diagram on that, to know what electronics to buy.

sounds like itll work out well.. one suggestion though, u can buy some single 194-type white LEDs that will plug into ur license plate light housings without having to use a board... i found some at a local pepboys and theyre not too shabby, fairly bright..

good luck with the LEDs

I recently replaced the stock OEM incandescent puddle lamp bulbs with super bright white LEDs. Not being able to find a "plug -n- play" part, I had to design my own LED boards.

I thought others might like this mod, so I spent the day taking pictures and writing a tutorial. It is designed for 3rd generation Explorers, but I'm sure other generations are similar.

This is what the finished product looks like:

And you can view the tutorial here:

(please excuse the rush job on the webpage - I wanted to get it uploaded as soon as I could)

If you need a custom wiring diagram designed around your specific parts (for instance if you don't know what value current-limiting resistors to use with your particular LEDs), just let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Have fun, and enjoy!

Hey dude, I am active duty Air Force stationed in Germany. It is hard to get access to this type of material to make these led kits. I want them though. I have an 02 xlt with the puddle lamps. Would you mind sending me a price that you are willing to make and send me a pair?? I am willing to pay, so that is no proble. Please e-mail me @ kory_n_steph@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance...

No "plug and play" part?

There are a few websites out there that sell tons of LED's that are plug n play. Is there something I am missing that will not allow you to just plug it in with no mods? I bought a few from ebay that are stock 194's. They plugged right into my license plate light, they have 5 LEDS on one bulb, cost me $5. I have not looked into using something similiar for the puddle lights so I thought I may be missing something. Please let me know.

I used this site, www.superbrightleds.com , for my reference and bought from a source on ebay.

ya you can just swap in the 194's with no other mods
