LED swap over!

W

WhiteLimited

So I though, what the hell why not start a thread its been a grip since I started a new thread. So here we go! This have been a summer long project in the making you have no idea, well some of you might. Thank you Tim for doing this for mean it mean a lot to me, and thank you Don for getting him the wheel controls! Now both of you have a part in The Making Of The Alaskan Limited! Ha anyways! So I have to see about combining the LED's from the master switch Tim made me with the master switch parts he sent me because the good master switch was not so good :( I will see what I can do with that over this week. So far! everything works almost perfectly, the fan(wheel control) button has gone out once but I touched it and it came back on, but it seems ok. The passenger door lights up great since we switched the polarity. But they Up Down went out then I drove and it came back on... Tim, I think when you send me that other one can you make 2 extras just in case? And maybe an unlock button one or two as well? If you have the LEDs and its no trouble if not oh well? Heres what I have done so far, as I get more done I will update this.

ALSO is there a way to do the heater controls? I'm buying a new head unit that I can hit a button and change its color to anything I want so thats no big deal. I will worry about the cluster here sometime soon when I buy a GPS because I don't want to take it apart and not be able to set the MPH back!

PS, Don your box sure turning into a *****!

Looks nice, maybe he could do mine.. lol

Are you gonna paint the wood to match now? Or are you still set on keeping it?

Looks good, I'd like mine in white :D

I was going to say that looks TOO bright. I dim my dash and shut off the screen on my LCD monitor at night.

That looks amazingly good man!

Wow, that's a really cool Ex!

I will have to say tho those blue LEDs are a bit bright... I have a satellite radio I can't stand because of bright blue LEDs.

ooo Sparkly...looks amazing

Doubtful ha this has been a 3 or 4 month project, lots of money and time. And we still have problems and kinks to work out.

Ok Tim! I think I found the problem with the master switch. I switched everything around every way I could between the three I have. So my duction is! On the under side of the switches there are points that HAVE to touch the saudering(sp) you did. Witch they don't... I messed around with it enough that I did get the driver window to do up and down. I need to wait for my room mate to get home to see if he has a sauder(sp, god will someone teach me that word!) Does that make since? Call me if it does not.

i am trying to remember what it looked like. i do remember it was a spider web in there! try this then, take the parts one that i gave you, and plug it into your door without the top on it (so you can see the copper) and touch the contacts to see if the windows go up or down without any problems. if it dose, then yes, the solder is touching somewhere (figures to, the only switch i couldn't test because i know no one with a four door!).

i wasn't kidding when i said i was frustrated (not at you, me) when i was talking to you on the phone last night. this should have been a plug and play, and not a trouble shoot! i even had a hard time sleeping because of this!!!!!

i did get REAL lucky today however. thinking, now i have to drive to winnipeg (about 30 mins from where i live) drag a bunch of tools with me to the wreckers and HOPE there is a truck there that i can get switches from when i saw this.

where i work (scrap yard, that also shreds cars as well) you get real lucky! this was sitting there when i walked in this morning! :bounce:

i called up one of the loaders there, and asked him not to damage it if possible, and movie it somewhere that i could get parts off it:shifty_ey.

so i walked away with a o/h console, the headlights (i want them for spares for evil if i ever sell her), and (drum roll please) SWITCHES!!!!! so tonight, i think what i am going to do is try and see if i can make up a different master switch by wiring it differently. if it works, i will send it up with the other ones. if you want, try and monkey with the one you have, but it might be hard to do. i remeber cutting the leads of the leds realy short after i did solder them together. but once again, i wont have any way to test the function of them.

which brings me to another question, do your cruise switches function like they are supposed to? those where the hardest ones i have had to do yet! there is absolutely no room in them to work.

if the leds are too bright (like everyone else thinks as well) they will dim with your dimmer switch, unless you have found that out already.

Looks nice, maybe he could do mine.. lol

will see...... i will let danny be the judge on all of this. for me doing them in your drive way is one thing, but doing them, sending some out that you are unable to test, drop them in the mail and praying they don't treat it like the first 5 mins of the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and not being right there if there is a problem, is another .

honestly, the only things I'd want changed would be the steering cruise control buttons (standard buttons, not like dannys), and the dash buttons (heater if possible also).. I don't care too much about the door switches (would be nice though) n im gonna be getting new gauges anyways..... yea.. does seem like a pretty big project though... very nice job

storlied, i will put it to you this way. i just spent about 4 hours doing 2 rocker switches for the doors, and another master switch.

danny, i have the new/extra switches done. i will try them in evil tomorrow depending if it rains or not. i now have the master switch done, and i got the window lock switch to "click and stay" again. all the lights work in everything as well. here is what the bottom of the master switch looks like. a hell of a lot better then the one that i first sent you.

Ok someone please tell me if there 1998/99-2001 back doors light up? The switches I mean. Mine don't even have the factory wires for the lights! There is NO way I am running power wires back there!:salute:
