lift gate wont shut all the way.

I need help...My lift gate will not shut all the way on the driver side, no matter how i shut it. It wasnt lined up (if you go by the pinstripes) but i fixed that by adjusting the hinges.... But the shutting problem was not fixed. It will latch...but not tightly, also when shut...the gap between it and the body above the tail lights is bigger than on the passenger side. Also, when shut, on the passenger side...it wont budge...on the driver side you can pull on it and move a bit.......

Any suggestions?

check the weatherstripping around the edges and see if any is missing... just a thought...

Check both door strickers they can come loose try adjusting the side that fill loose in and out and make sure both latches are working try locking them and opening them with the door open.

Its probably the door striker. My right side has that problem right now. Its a pia. I need to fix it one of these days...

is the striker the round thing that the latch latches on to? And if so, are you saying screw it in and out to adjust it? Im gonna try that while ill give yall time to respond to this.

Try turning the latch handle with the gate open...

Do this to make sure the latches are in the open position before closing the gate. If your gate was misaligned, trying to close it may have flipped the latches to the closed position before catching the posts.

I know whats wrong...

I figured it out!! I love it when that happens. OK....the bar that the latch latches on to is missing the sleave that makes it thicker. To prove to myself that that was what it was I swapped it with the other side and sure enough it worked. So...if anybody's lift gate will shut but still is loose, might be because the bar/screw that the latch latches to is missing it's sleave. Know what im talking about? Sorry i dont know what its called, maybe the door striker? Hopefully an auto parts store has these.
