I run 4.88 Thick gears and they fit just fine in the 8.8. Not sure about the Dana35 up front though since I've only run them after the solid axle swap.

Ya, sorry, I was referring to my confusion on the Dana 35. I knew you could squeeze them in on the 8.8 just didn't know if you could for the 35. If you can that would be sweet I'd do that for sure. Essentially the same price anyway and would get me fully to stock.

STrunner do you have a locker in the rear as well or no? I wondered whether you could fit a locker in along with the 4.88s.

Oh and how do you like the 4.88s? When you were stock were you at 4.1 or 3.73?

Sorry I can't tell you one way or the other on the 35. I don't have a locker in yet. I had a failed install of an Aussie last summer. Because of the thick gears I couldn't get the carrier pin out. This sumer I hope to remove the whole carrier to put the locker in because the last couple trips after the SAS being open/open is killing me. It looks like it will fit though.

I really like the 4.88s. I had 4.10s from the factory and 4.88 puts me at an effective ratio with 35s right around 4.2 so they make it feel pretty close to stock. And lo range on the transfer case is amazing moving to 4.88s from the 4.10s that I ran for about 6-8 months with the 35s. They are definitely what I would recommend going with if you have 35s or even the slightest thought of getting 35s+.

I am running 4.56 with 285's and I really like it. I have to drive 60-65 on the freeway to get any mileage but it feels really nice around the city. I got over 400 miles on my last tank, I think it came out to 21mpg average on that tank.

Guess I will see what it will cost to have 4.56 or 4.88 gears installed. If 4.88 gears will fit.

got it lifted and bigger tries i love my trac now

My body lift is done. Only thing I still have to do is put the plastic fender wells back in the rear to cover the frame body seperation. I'll post some pics tomorrow. I really like 285 look. Midnight's with 285 bfg ats was what really sparked my want for a lifted trac. The 315/75 duratracs mounted will only be 34.1" or so, so I think I can regear to 4.56 and be dandy. There is some debate on 4.88s really fitting.

I love my bfgs. Theyve taken me everywhere I've asked them to go. Only wish is for better rain handling. They hydroplane like a ***** at times in heavy rain but they are damn near bulletproof so its tradeoffs.

i was supposed to do the body lift on mine this week but things came up.

I would be happy to be running your tire setup with that much lift.

looks good. get some more pics up!

Man I miss the trails. I'm hoping to get a free weekend and head to Gulches or something.

It's been 2 years since durhamtown!? Dang time flies.

I went this past year but that photo is a video capture from two years ago. I might be able to get a run in sometime between August and October.

So I'll need to post more pictures but I wondered if anyone else after the body lift has slightly off center fogs? Mine are not perfectly center anymore, down about an 1/8th of an inch from where they were prior to the lift. I also may have to trim my crush zones a bit more my passenger side fog seems to be pointing slightly higher lol. Always something I swear.

My shop had a sale on dynomax muffler this week so put on a dynomax super turbo couple days ago. Wonderful addition.

There should have been some white nylon spacers to fix the fog light position. Are they not on there? I might have them laying around if you need them.

I still like my Dynomax. Did you remove the resonator?

No white nylon spaceers I can find and nowhere in my terrible instructiona that mentions them. Makes a lot of sense though. If you do have them that would be sweet, if not a picture would help me rig something up.

Ya no sense keeping it since ford put it behind the muffler. It all just came off. I'll post pics of the weld job. Sounds fantastic. Mean and strong at low rpms but not at all obnoxious at 65. Its funny to sit at idle, it sounds like someone with subs is a couple cars behind. :D

On an unrelated note happy 100th page!

I'm on the road today but I'll check for those tomorrow and take a picture. I can send them to you but it may be a couple weeks before I can get them out because I'll be in the Bahamas the next two weeks.

Btw, it's page 199 on forum runner.

Dauntless, were you on I-80/35 on the north side of Des Moines at 8:40 this morning? If that wasn't you, there's another dark, lifted Sport Trac with 4x4 decals in the area. Looked like it had ISU colored plates. Looked good!

Mine's the same way, Dauntless. The fog lights sit a little low. Since I rarely ever turn them on anymore, I haven't even bothered to fix it.

I never bothered either. That's why they're still in a ziploc bag. Then I cut off the bumper. ..
