Actually, you can purchase adapters for the metric Lightning wheel spacing to the Explorer spacing. Usually pretty costly and easier to simply get rims that fit the Explorer without the added adapter hassles and risks.

1st Generation Lightning had standard sizing; 2nd Generation since 1999 has metric sizing.
