I just got my Livewires. These things are damn nice. I'll be installing them tomorrow. Hope it fixes my poor running problem.

Yeah so went to install them and they aren't long enough. Called and they said they would correct the situation. So I'll see what their service is like. So far so good I guess. Man I can't wait to get these wires on my truck.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a Livewire?

Plug wires.

High dollar plug wires. They run $130 for a 5.0 Explorer/Mountaineer but yet people ***** about the cost of Motorcraft plug wires

$60 from Rock Auto biatch :p::D
I don't even see Motorcraft on Rock's website. I did however price them from the dealer, and they were cutting me a break selling them to me at $365 for the set. I said no thanks.

I found them right away. I ordered them on 5/22 (Sat) and had them Wed 5/26 and they fit :p:

Be glad you didn't go with the NAPA Belden wires. That's what I just replaced. Of course that header burn didn't help #7 wire :D But seriosly I a have read about a couple of other members just with in the last week that had problems with the NAPA Belden wires.

$magnecor$ best plug wires I've ran

Should I feel bad about scoring a set of new Motorcrafts on eBay for $18? :D

I ran Mags, Taylor, and Motorcraft on my Mustang drag car, and ended up with plain old Motorcrafts back on it.

I just keep ending up at 'nobody ever complained about the performance of a good Motorcraft part'

Your truck has a distributor and traditional style wire, though. Mine has two coilpacks. I found the aftermarket was pretty limited when it came to wires for mine unless I wanted some junk like you say from Oreilly or NAPA.

Man, I almost got those Beldens from NAPA too. The kid in the store said they were making them for Ford so they would be of the same quality. I thought, "Yeah, sure."

Speaking of burning wires. Like I said originally, the Livewires were too short. The #5 wire was so short when attatched on both ends, it was tight against the exhaust manifold. 7 and 8 were shorter than factory but I just rerouted them and they would have worked fine. When I installed 5 and saw that problem, I just stopped and called them. Larry was real cool about it. He said for me to just send them back with the measurements they should be and I said I would just send the factory Motorcrafts and he could build them right off of those.

The Livewires are really thick. They may be 8,9 mm wires but they have a snakeskin insulation outside of that, making them about 10mm or 11. I need to find some wire holders that will facilitate these wires. All of the aftermarket holders I've seen do not have any way of bolting them to anything, except like the old school VC holders and they're junk. What good are wire holders if they don't fasten to anything? So that when they fall onto the manifold, it burns all of them in the holder?

Okay, I just assumed your truck had a distributor. I guess not since the wires pictured for your truck have coilpack ends on them. That's weird. They don't show Motorcrafts for my truck at all. I wonder if they don't fit the same merc to ford. Are your coilpacks in the front of th engine over the top of the thermostat housing?

Yes, his mountaineer is set up just like the rest of the 2nd gen's.

Ok I've done a little searching and the price difference in wires seems to depend on if you have the cast manifolds or the earlier stamped ones. And wow is there a big price difference.

current prices for motorcraft wire sets.

stamped manifold cast manifold

rockauto $67 $140
O'reilly's $93 $195
Tousley ford parts $34 $126
Ford MSRP $85 $311

Rock Auto still doesn't list them for my truck. Idiots. They lose for not knowing how to list items on their site because I would have ordered them instead. Oh well.

And I wonder what the hell the manifold has to do with the price?
