Looking For Advice On 99 Dodge

My wife's crazy uncle has a 99 Dodge 3/4 ton 4X4 with the 318V8 in it. He also stuck over 6 grand worht of chrome on it--like the grill, fender wells, trim etc. It's loaded and is jet black.
Here's the good part-----he was very cheap----refused to drive it due to gas prices and his insurance. It has 18000kms on it---that's all. I can pick this up for 15 grand canadian. Considering the price of a new one like this is over 50 grand off the lot--is this a good truck? I am worried about the fact there is no warranty and if the engine or tranny goes--I have to replace it. Anyone ever own or know how good these trucks turned out to be? Thanks.

Try www.allpar.com. Almost as informative as this site. Nah, on second thought, doesn't come close, but I use that site for access to forums on our chrysler.

I'm affraid of all Chrysler products. My friends and family have all had bad luck with the Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicles they have owned. One of my friends and I went to 3 different dealers and test drove 4 different trucks and the check engine light came on in all 4 trucks. During the damn test drive!! I will never buy a Chrysler product. Just my observation and opinion.

The 318 is fairly gutless especially in the 3/4ton. Very reliable engine, just weak and dont expect decent gas mileage. The auto trannies are notorius for failing in a very catastrophic manner. Other than not having much power and having a crappy tranny, its overall a good truck.

Try www.edmunds.com Dodge has its good days and bad days........meaning I have friends that have problems with their trucks every day and other friends that have no problems at all. Depends on the luck you have! Yeah bad trannys are common in dodge pickups and right now one of my friends is having problem with radiator. Like all vehicles (not being biased) they have their problems.

If a Dodge, get a stick and a Cummins. Not much to go wrong, then.
