I Have a 2008 2wd Explorer Sport Trac with a 4.0L Evin number. I recently blew a head gasket and I have decided to purchase a re-manufactured engine. I have looked at Jasper, Remanns, Thunderbolt, Promar and they all seem to have good prices but their reviews are all over the place. I spoke to a mechanic and he told me to look at a FMC re-manufactured crate engine. It is on the higher end of the prices I've seen but the FMC engine actually comes with a lot of the install kit items that the other companies offer for an extra cost (example: water pump, valve covers, oill filter, gaskets etc).
Has anyone bought a re-manufactured engine from any of the above companies or can any of you recommend a re-manufacturing company.
Any advice you could give this old fart would be appreciated.
