Hello all,

I keep getting DTC code 1309. It usually occurs if the engine does not start right away or if during a hard acceleration I have to let off the gas and hit the brakes hard.

I have replaced the CMP and the coils.

A little background, 96 Ranger xl(used to be 2.3) with 98 Explorer drivetrain (5.0, 4R70) all emissions are intact. Still using Ranger fuel pump.

Thanks for any and all help.

I had P1309 code and it was the alternator. I also replaced the camshaft position sensor thinking that was it but it ended up being the alternator. I think ac ripple and or incorrect dc voltage from the alternator can give this code.

Thaks. I did change the alterator already.

I am wondering if the higher fuel pressure from the ranger could be the problem.

If your 5.0 came out vehicle that used the return-less fuel system (not sure what year Ford switched to this) it should have around 65-67 psi at the fuel rail. if the Ranger had the return-style system, it's pump only puts out around 35 psi. i'm not aware that the Ranger used a different pump than the Explorer. from what I've seen, Ford used the same fuel pump in many of their vehicles in the same model year.

are you sure the CPS was installed correctly?
