Looking to buy 1993 XLT 4x4 - need advice

I am going to look at a 1993 Explorer 4x4 XLT and would like some feedback from owners. The vehicle is from a retired man who has all the records and all maintenance is up to date. He has owned for the last 10 years and it only has 108k original miles. Sounds like a good deal for $2500. The front hubs are manual locking so I assume they have been upgraded at some point. Anything specific to look for other than the usual used car stuff?

The manual hubs may be original. There are Ford-made auto hubs (weak) and also manual hubs made for Ford by Warn (strong).

Ask about cylinder heads and if they are original; if they were replaced, what were they replaced with.

2500 is...high, way too high a price for a stock, well maintained xlt. I bought mine for 1400 in CA, and have spent a considerable amount of money in repairs even for it being a good-shape truck.

If it makes you feel any better, I gave 2000 for my 93 last year. Thought it was a good buy then and after almost 10000 miles, still do. It had about 127000 on it when new to me. Havn't had to do too much to it, fix the 4 wheel drive (replace the plastic bushing) had the auto hubs hand up on it this winter, going to go with manuals shortly, and having the rear carpet pro. cleaned. Managed to dump some used fish frying grease on it. One little bump. lol. Good luck with yours, Arne.

Yes, here in MN I've seen them from scrap price (even running), all the way up to about $1500. $2000 is in PERFECT condition with next to no miles on it. The low price is the reason I buy these.
