Looking to Purchase 5th Generation- Any Advice?

Hello Forum:

I am currently looking to purchase a 5th generation after the timing chain went on my 04 EB. Besides the water pump issue, what are some things to look out for? Also is there a particular year to stay away from? I am definitely looking into getting a ESP- because that have saved me in the past more times than I can count.

I have a few lined up already but one particular one I was looking at is a 2019 Limited with only 33,000 miles. Would I need to purchase the ESP right away for this particular one or do I have some time? For the 04, I purchased the ESP on the same day as I purchased the vehicle.

As for the ESP, I believe you can purchase it any time while under the factory warranty. In any case, the warranty takes effect on the date the Explorer was first put into service. I would not purchase it from the dealer. Not sure if you've seen this thread; Ford ESP at dealer cost to forum members

I have a question and wondering if you can help with me it. The dealer said that they would Certify the vehicle so it a CPO, is this some kind of gimmick? The vehicle is 2016 Limited with about 63,000 miles on it. Also if it's truly a CPO, would it still need an inspection if a decide to get an esp?

I don't believe it is a gimmick. While checking out 'Ford CPO' on an Internet search, I came across this article. It mentions something I wasn't aware of. Autotrader - page unavailable
As for requiring an inspection, I can't say for sure but if they are inspecting it for a CPO status that may also qualify it for and ESP. A CPO Warranty is usually shorter in duration. I don't know if the answer may be in this thread or not; Ford ESP at dealer cost to forum members
I did a quick search on CPO in that thread and came up with 9 posts. If you want to do the same, go to that thread and then go to the top right of the page and click on "Search". The type in CPO and chose "this thread" and click on 'Search'. Hope that helps.

I believe that the Ford CPO program gives you a 7year/100k mile warranty on the powertrain. Apparently there's a Gold and Blue CPO Program. The Gold CPO has the powertrain warranty. The blue does not, according to what I found.

That Gold CPO may be worthwhile depending on your appetite for risk of repairs.

Thank you. Appreciate the advice. I'm picking her up in a few! Its includes the powertrain 7year/100k miles and bumper to bumper 1yr/12000 miles.
