I had a couple out in mine and found out the lamps were good after taking it apart. What I did then was clean the connection point a little and put it back together and it fixed the problem.
I'm sorry to say this.....but you have to pull the cluster out.
I had the same problem on my 95 x. the top of the speedometer was dark along with the gas gauge. I just figured the some bulbs were out and replaced them all , even the ones that were still working only because in order to take the cluster out you have to take half of the entire dash coverings off in order to get all the screws and bolts out and the finally get the cluster out. just expect this to take way too much time then it should.
