Just picked up a 96 XP8 clone and when u turn the fan to max on ac,vent etc the fan is loud as hell, does this sound like the blower motor has about had it? How much of a job is it to change?

I'm not sure about the blower motor, go ahead and check your AC intake. It is right under the glove box on your passenger side, it's bout big enough to stick a pencil in it.

It is too often that things get sucked up or caught in the intake.

I had a VERY loud, low rumbling sound recently. Took it to the dealer, and turns out that a mouse had made it's way into the AC unit and got ground up when i turned it on. They removed the mouse and disinfected my AC for around $150.

If it is your blower motor, it would be considerably cheaper than replacing the AC compressor itself. Let us know what you find out.

Took a look and stuck a small screwdriver up the hoile u mentioned and got some nasty looking crap out so I am sure I have the same problem u did. Willing to bet some little critter crawled in there and is the cause of my troubles. Now need to see what it takes to remove it

Unless you are thinking about doing it yourself, I would suggest taking it to the dealer. My local dealer charges about 75$ per hour to look at a car. In my case It took about 2 hours, and they went through the entire AC unit and then took the mouse out.

Beware of local mechanics in this case, I called around and most of them told me they were going to have to pull the heater box for about $500.

Best of wishes.

I have a similar sounding problem. A very loud sound coming from behind / under the glovebox of my '00 Explorer. Cold air comes out, and it gets louder as I turn it up. Rear Ac works as well. Would love to avoid dealer at this point. Does anyone know if pencil trick will work?
Also just found this site...love it Thanks!
