Low end torque...

The eliminator chips do have their place. I will be doing the Elim chip in my 93 Ranger (OBD-1). The problem is that if you have an issue with a tune or you want a tweak to be done then you will have to send the chip off to the tuner to get it reprogrammed. .

Actualy if you have a local tune shop around you chips work pretty good and they can be tweaked pretty quick that and your tune will be custume to the vehicle

Most people do not have an SCT tuner local to them so they would run into a pickle there. The tune would be custom to the vehicle anyways regardless of going with the Xcal2 or the 6600 Chip.

true well i mean, if its local you just sit on the dyno no need for a wideband

Maybe I am missing something here but even with an Xcal2 and a local tuner a normal person would not need nor run a wideband in their vehicle. You have me slightly confused as I do not understand what your point is.

Yeah, guess i'm trying to say with a local person i'd run the chip cause you'd have the change on the fly, but when you gotta mail it off i'd rather use the xcal2

Okay I have a few more questions...
Firstly I see I have about 3 options...
1. Hensonperformance.com XCAL2 for $390. Does the $390 include the three tunes or are the tunes seperate?
2. Explorerexpress.com BamaChips XCAL2 $400. How does this compare with the henson performance XCAL2 and tunes?
3. Hensonperformance.com Eliminator Switch Chip $270. Cheaper alternative... but apparently problematic and a bit of a hassle. Also the fact that your stuck with the tunes you buy and have to send it in to get new ones. Am I better off getting a flasher?

My main concern is between choices #1 and #2. What are the pros and cons of each?
My customer service is a country mile better than option two. I have a huge clientel which seems to also agree. Since you are in Columbus, contact me, since I am in Al maybe I could tune you in person. I had a Livewire in my truck for around two months and seem to like it. If you like the bells and whistles then my suggestion is go for it. If you want a dependable tuning solution which will flash your ecm then the Excal2 is the way to go. hensonperformance@bham.rr.com
BTW- my new ExCal's now generally comes with two tunes. If you want an additional I will work with you. Most tuners only ship an ExCal with 1 tune and some with two or even three. I primarily send two.

Xan, Most of the Explorer community uses the ExCal just for the specific reason that Rob mentioned in the beginning of the thread. The j-port being disabled. One thing Doug and I agree on is the fact of a chip is too much of a hassle with an Explorer and Ranger (as these are really the main vehicles with the j-ports being disabled) or even a 'Stang. I sell 15 to 1 in regards of ExCals (15) versus the chips(1), the ratio may even be higher in regards to the ExCal favor. In the 2002 and newer there isn't even a j-port. It has been eliminated. There are pros and cons to both. But pulling the computer just for a touchup and having to have a tuner present is a hassle. For a lot of my locals they get a gear swap done in thier Mustangs(already tuned) all they want is thier speedo corrected. I do most of my local customer gear swaps and tuning and I don't even like the hassle of having to pull the computer to burn the chip and reinstall. I charge for that. Otherwise if work was performed by someone else I shoot them a new tune via email reflecting speedo correction. With a chip they have to make arrangements to have a chip burned by me in person. Which I still charge for.Not only that you can datalog and perform the cel check and reset of the light with a ExCal.-James

The J-port can be fixed if disabled, i looked it up and saw the problem and it looks pretty easy to fix. That and pulling the computer is 2 nuts and pull it out, dynosports does fine tune adjustments like that for free

Yes, I have done the jumper mod on my old X when I discovered that its J3 port was disabled. I also have detailed pictures of other vehicles PCM's and J3 port jumper locations too if anyone needs them in the future.

The first few changes may be free, but they will not always be free trust me.

Exactly Rob! If it were all free how would tuners stay in business?

Didn't you get the memo James? Everything should be free! From now on I will start giving away Turbo systems and installing them for free; heck superchargers too. God man get with the times, us performance shop owners are non-profit now. :p:

Just giving people **** so nobody get all bent out of shape.

Oh how I wish supercharges were free......

I checked my throttle body to see if I need to do the throttle cable mod... It opens 100%. I'm so disappointed. If it had been opening at 70% liked some people have reported, my engine would have been running approximately 70% of its capacity. Now that I see it's at 100%, my engine has been running at max. So disappointing....
My friend was driving my explorer today and we were going around 45 mph and I told him to "just punch it." It threw us back in our seats and we toooook off. He squealed with delight. It made me soooo happy.
I'll be getting my paycheck on monday. Depending on how much I get will decide when i get my tuner. I can't wait!!!

So much sarcasm, you sent the sarcasm meter off the charts!
I don't expect things to be free, I just like discounts  . I get them at the auto parts store i always go to and from my tire dealer too :D

Tell me when the gas is free

I was in a joking mood, what can I say. ;)

BTW, where can I pick one of these "sarcasm meters" up?

You'll be suprised what discounts you can get from a performance shop owner if you show loyality. That, and if you have a good one, he could save you from making some very COSTLY mistakes. That alone will save you.

Now, can I have my turbo for free, Rob? Tuning for free James?

No, don't do it, and skip the Tornado also.

I don't get the spacers on engines like ours, on a carbed engine and TB injection engines it helped by making the runners longer and the air fuel mixture would atomize better but when the fuel is being injected right before or into the cylinder i just don't see spacers helping and i doubt the "swirling air" makes it that far down the intake

Well When I put the Spacer on my old 5.0 I saw an Improvement, but I did it more or less because of the heat. If you think about it the air going in is cooler and more dense.. because the intake is further away from the heat source. And ya I thought it would make the air turbulant which would mess up the atomization but it ran stronger and cooler
