will lowering hurt my explorer or my pocket in the long run need some opinions please :)

If you want to stay on road, I say do it.
The improvement in handling should save wear on brakes
Other than the cost of the parts, you should see no negative effects.
 












it has to wear the ball joints out faster, but i don't think it goes that much faster. I got 75k out of my balljoints with a torsion twist 2" drop.

Other than that it sholdn't be too much
 






In my experience, abnormal wear on parts is negligable. As long as you get camber adjusters, your tires will wear just fine too.
