i was plannin on orderin a MAC catback for my mounty in a few weeks(after some of my stuff for sale started to repay my credit card). i stopped by to see my local performance exhaust guy, jus for shiggles to see what he would quote me on a custom catback.

turns out he can get the MAC kit from his supplier uber-cheap b/c they are on closeout special. figuring his supplier is jus gonna stop carrying them, i jumped on his price.

now i dont even see them listed on explorer express either? did MAC quit makin them?

Yes, how cheap is uber-cheap and can some of us get in on the uber-cheap price?

sorry for the delay, i was kinda busy puttin on my new exhaust :p:
ordered thrusday, picked up friday. gotta love local shops! installed this morning in just over an hour, nice kit. sounds great.

i got mine for $200 out the door. pre 4/98 kit. i didnt check on the other style.
when we ordered mine the supplier said he had 3. when i picked mine up friday, he said one of the last two was spoken for. ive got a buddie on the hook for the last kit as soon as he hears mine tomorrow, and picks up the phone monday morning. sorry guys.

(wouldnt wanna step on any EF vendor toes, either ;) )

The tailpipe is the special part of those kits, the least important part of the exhaust. I understand about bolt on ease, but a decent exhaust shop can install any muffler and make the tailpipe in less than 30 minutes.

I'm planning a Edelbrock SDT muffler for my SOHC V6, leaving the stock tailpipe in. For a 302 you'd want a better tailpipe, like 1/2" instead of the stock 2.25" pipe. Regards,

agreed. but he wanted ~$400 to bend up and install a catback system w/a magnaflow muffler. i figured for $200 id try out the MAC, and if i didnt like the sound or it was too loud, id reuse the pipes and swap in the magnaflow later on.

I know, there are some shops which will stick it to you, and they do get away with it with some people. The cost of aftermarket exhaust parts has skyrocketed in the last 15 years or so. The exhaust shops have benefited the most from the too high costs. I expect my local place to charge me under $75 to install my single muffler, and resonator, and use my old tailpipe.

i ASSuME this is with you providing all the parts. the $400 i was quoted would include all parts and labor, out the door. labor is what gets me. i cant stand to pay someone to do work on my vehicles....

if i decide to swap mufflers in this kit, he wont charge me more than $75 to swap a muffler either but i can do that myself too ;)

I know, the $400 is too high for the cheap muffler that most shops carry. That price is likely over $300 in labor, I agree I like to do what I can. That's what makes that $200 kit so good, the parts do bolt in with minor trouble(front slip joint). People need to know how fast exhaust shops can do the work, and not pay them $200 per hour, or close to it.

Wow, I paid $150 cash out the door for a Magnaflow stainless steel dual in single out, with new pipes from the catalytic converters all the way back. I hate muffler shops that jack up their prices sky high- that stuff doesn't cost that much.

Just aluminized 2.5" tubing, non mandrel bends. Stainless is overkill around here- rust just isn't an issue.

Here it is in progress- notice the awesome welds
