MAC Cold Air Kits

I believe your dealer is feeding you a load of BS. The first performance mod I did to my '97 was my K&N FIPK. I added it about a month after I increased my tire size from 30" to 32". The performance gain from my FIPK equals about the performance I lost with the taller tires. I have had my FIPK on and off many times over the last two years and each time I take it off I can feel the difference. It isn't subsantial but it is noticeable. About the only time I don't feel the increased performance is when the outside temperature is above 90F which in Phoenix, that is about 1/2 the year.

who cares if your tailpipes dont exit behind the rear axle. you think a cop is going to stick his head under your car?
when smog time comes ya just stick a tail ipe on.

and no i dont mind exhuast fumes.
its not like i sit in a garage with the car on.

damn some of you are the most **** car enthusiests ive ever seen.

I was just making sure that if he was possibly thinking of doing that....I wanted to remind him of possible consequences that could come about.

well iugoodfella, are you looking to get a really loud illegal exhaust that will put poisonious gasses into your explorer while you are stopped at a light or in traffic?

well theres nothing wrong with constructive advice but when it gets to the point that yer talking down to other people its just not nice.

How was I??? Oh well. Whatever. Anyways....if your looking for quite loud..... a 40 series Flowmaster, not so loud but still a nice rumble...50 series Flow. I have heard really good things about the Magnaflow's on explorer's too.

hmm... whats wrong with this picture?

Alright guys, I appreciate all of your opinions...and obviously many of them are going to vary. At this point I will just wait and see what I think when I install the new MAC System. I do like an aggresive sounding truck but Im not sure how much more loud I want my X to be, It all depends on how this new system makes things. I can always leaves my options open. Right now, after this MAC im going to concentrate on my interior and audio. But of course Ill be back to ask others opinions once more.

Thanks for all your help guys and Ill keep you updated. Remember to play nice!

oh well im not going to sit and argue with you.
i have my opinions and you have yours. and we will leave it at that.

Hey 02exsport, do you still have that air intake? That particular part number fits my 2002 XLS.

WRONG PART !!!!!!!

The part they shipped me was for a 2002 Explorer 4door - not the Sport. I specified "SPORT" and they swore it was correct - not correct !!!!

They said the correct part number ( for RPM OUTLET ) is
MAC 3640, they shipped MAC 3624.

I would NOT order until they have the correct part - they have to order it from MAC. They tech asked me what the intake looked like and I explained it to him, but I don't think they know what they are talking about.

I might just get the K&N and open up the air box. Amsoil does NOT have the part yet either. I ran an Amsoil filter on my PSD and it worked VERY well. I never had any oil or residue on the intake or the turbo vanes.

Good Luck....

There is no law specifying an exhaust must exit behind the rear axle, several new cars from the dealer come with pipes that exit in front of the rear axle. Ford Lightning is just one that comes to mind. All fords I believe in 97 had tailpipes in front of the rear axle also. The only effect pipe length has is creating a change in backpressure which is almost impossible to determine on your own anyway. Put the pipes wherever you feel like it, just dont touch the cats and have a muffler and your fine from a legal standpoint.

There is a law for passenger vehicles. The exhaust has to exit behind the last seat in the vehicle. Since the Lightning is a truck with only one row of seats, the exhaust exits behind the last row, yet still can exit in front of the rear wheels. It isn't so much as to having to exit behind the rear wheels as it is that it must exit behind the last row of seats. It just so happens that most vehicles have their last row of seats on or slightly in front of the rear axle. My '97 2-door exhaust exits out below my rear bumper as does every other stock Explorer.

can't be true...

Those Rousch mustangs have exhausts that dump out the sides, just before the rear wheels. I know that isn't behind the last row of seats.... just a thought.
