Well everyone on here is always scrambling to the different manufacturers trying to buy them. These are very popular kits in almost any vehicle, you didn't make a wrong decision.

Doesn't fit...

I got my MAC cold ait kit yesterday # 3624. I think, by just looking at it, that it is the wrong one for an 02 explorer sport. Does anyone know the correct part number? Are the 01 exp 4door and the 02 exp sport the same part number???

personally.. theres not enough room in an X for a cold air kit, and it wouldn't really help anyway. I mean, even if you did manage to get a pipe to the fresh air, it'd have to be less than a 1/2" pipe cos theres just no room. I tried adding a KKM kit and it didnt do anything but TAKE hp. I'm no expert on the thing, but from my experience, those kits are just a farce

Well, Ill see what I think once I have mine installed...if all else fails Ill still have my original air setup with the K&N. But my question is, why would the MAC systems be advocated as a great boost to your car and change ur setup if they dont do anything different as you guys say. I personally hope it makes my car sound bigger and add more horses. It cant be worse than my K&N filter and Id assume it does what it says by adding power. I guess everyone has their own opinion on the effectiveness of these units. Id imagine Id be able to sell the MAC unit without much of a loss in cash if I decided it wasnt what I wanted. Plus, as SSIKORA said, I can always add a cat-back to increase it all.

well if it dosent add hp or torque i CAN vouch for the sound. i dont know for a fact about the hp, but once i put in my MAC it sounded like a beast (i do have the v8 though) and i DID notice better throttle response.

Do a search on here for kkm...they are the type that many use and swear by. This MAC has the same type of filter, plus a mandrel bent tube. Were not talking about adding a supercharger here, but a nice mandrel bent tube is better than a rippled one any day. Saying an intake kit doesn't work is like saying headers don't work. They do the reverse....in helping get exhaust out quicker....why would getting in air quicker not be an improvement????

TAKE hp???

maybe if it were drawing air directly from the exhaust pipe but these do not... rip out the airbox... rip out that shield behind the passenger side headlamp and you get plenty of airflow to have a COLD AIR Intake. I recommend MAC because they look great and you can easily mount a NOS nozzle in them :D... the choice is your but they do improve performance... of course, you may want to consider some exhaust work to get the air moving...

intakes dont add hp when they are sucking up hot engine air.
unless its a fender mounted intake dont worry about it.
yeh they look good.
sound good too. but as far as performance goes they dont really do squat more that a k&n drop in filter.

i had the kkm intake on my old explorer and it sounded good but was only sucking up hot engine air. didnt add any performance.

and a metal intake tube will get hotter then the stock rubbery tube.

i have a mac intake on my mustang. didnt really do a damn thing. i could have got the same gains by adding a k&n drop in filter and removing the air silencer.

just someting to think about.
if you want to spend $150 on an intake that looks good then go for it. just dont buy it and expect to drop a second off your quarter mile

So Mikeresin, what your saying is that basically I am adding better sound and looks onto the improved performance a K&N gives me? Ill take it, Ill just drop my K&N filter into my sisters new 2002 X. Ok so lets do some thinkin here....since Ive added this to my car, what should go on next to help the exhaust? Catback? What else could I do? No NOS! (sorry lowdpypes) ;)

-Kyle

Catback will compliment really well. It more for looks and sound though.;)

Together you should definately feel/hear/see an improvement.

rather then paying for a cat-back id rather buy the muffler and have an exhuast shop do the tail pipes.
same performance for cheaper.

do you have a 4.0 or 5.0?

4.0 V6 SOHC...

going to a muffler shop and getting a muffler and pipes made sounds like a cat-back to me. a cat-back dosent have to be a bolt on kit you buy at a store, its just new exhaust from the "cats back".

Thank you Chris.

i know what a catback is.
but 99% of the time i head the phrase "catback" its people refering to buying a bolt on one by borla or what not.

IMO tail pipes are waste of time.
as long as you have cats ya dont need tail pipes. its more weight.

as far as I know they dont make a mandrel bent pipe for our cars, that is.. just the tube. Instead they make you pay $250 for a filter you dont need. I can't say anything about that, cos I dont have one can't find one either. But.. since I added my KKM my throttle response and overall performance including gas mileage has gone on a downward spyral, I'm at half a tank now and I only have about 108 miles on my mileage counter for this tank. My filter is in the fender, as best as it can be. I talked to the dealership about the slowness, they told me the kkm was TAKING an estimated 10-15hp from my engine because "the computer can't handle it" I agree about sound. The kkm made my exhaust sound deeper and perhaps a bit more aggressive. I have a flowmaster 50 on there, OEM cats and silencers (kind of illegal to remove those and extremley expensive to replace with high perf.) dual in/out muffler 2" pipes all the way out and I didn't notice any gain in perf. with this either. All it did was change my sound.

its illegal to not have tailpipes that at least dump behind the rear axle.
