hello, i have a 1998 ford explorer with a 4.0 in it. It's got 100,000 miles on it. Recently when i first start it it in the cold it will idle high then low and stall out sometimes, im assuming thats the iac valve, but the check engine light came on. I checked and the codes its coming up with are p0171 and p0174 (they are running lean) I've researched and i think its the MAF sensor. Do i clean it and it should be good or could it be something else. Thanks

Could be intake gaskets. They will cause that code and a high idle. When the engine warms up it seals.

Whats a intake gasket and where is it located. is it hard to replace, sorry pretty new to mechanics

They seal interfaces of the top pieces of your engine where air enters into the cylinders. Its not that difficult, and you can search the forum for advice on how to do it.
