Hey fellas, need some help. My buddy's 00 5.0 explorer is missing some exhaust manifold bolts...nasty leak! Just need to know bolt size and thread. The rest are too rusty, dont wanna chance backin one out and snapping it to check the thread. Its the front two on the left side that are missing, so I gotta drop the AC comp and p/s reservoir to get to em and tap em out...Just wanna make sure I got the right stuff before I dig into it ya know...I appreciate any help.....

I might add
Look real closely UNDER THE HEAT SHIELDS on the headers, I'll bet the header on passeger side is leaking huh?

It is probably cracked, be careful not to hercules on a header bolt trying to get rid of the leak, or you'll break a bolt off into the head.

been there, did it, and lets just say there was no looking back from there for me. lol

post back what you find

Well its the left side manifold leaking now. That ones too dam loud to tell if the other side is too. Hes had this thing for 4 or 5 yrs and nobody's done anything with the manifolds to explain TWO missing bolts?! Guess Ill just explain to him the possibility of a cracked manifold before I do anything, so Im not liable if it still leaks. Dont see him springing for headers or anyhting, just got married and had him a youngun....poor fella....Thanks for the replies, Ill try the bolts first and see what happens...

What's up with these missing bolts

In regards to the bolt size, I went to the dealership earlier this week after I discovered two bolts missing too (1 each on the left side of cyl. 1 & 2). They told me the bolt was 3/8 X 16 (coarse thread) X 2.19". However, 2" was too long so I went with 1" bolts and they went in fine without any problem. I was checking my plugs when I noticed it. I've had this truck going on 3 years and taken the plugs out 3 times and I didn't even notice it. I don't have a leak but I'm glad I caught it in time before one started.

I grabbed this picture off the site to show what bolts were missing.

You like my pic?:D

off topic a bit-maybe not
A scary one is the brake caliper bracket bolts in front, on inside of spindle.
They like to run away from home also--it has happened.
