thanks, now i can make a trail bag for either truck, woohoo...:D

I was pondering the Stronger Jeep hub thing and came to the conclusion they could cause U-Joint failure. We all know the HUBs are the week link in the drivetrain. They function as a fuse to protect the axle shafts and other drive train components from being overstressed. As such if you run Stronger HUBS you will risk the chance of U-joint failure. On a scale of 1 to 10 replacing a hub is a 1 while replacing U-joints or even swapping in a trail ready spare is a 10.

And with Warn the warranty is great so replacement should be great in either case.

Bronco 2 guy, I was wondering if any one was going to pick that out. Did not have any when that pic was taken. That's on my B2 build. Ford wanted $36 for two of those washers with splined inners and $14 dollars for those two Cir-clips  . Me promptly went to junk yard and got them for free.

DeRocha, that's interesting what you said about the weakest link. I would love to see some kind of controlled test where a stock hub was tested to see when it would break. Then do a test with stronger hubs like the Jeep hubs and just see how much stronger. And then also see if any other drivetrain breaks if in fact the hubs do take more stress. And if other drivetrain parts break, do they break just after the stronger hubs surpass the strength of the stock hubs? Or is there a wider margin reliability that could let you enjoy the day with no breaks. I hope I make sense  I would also think that a stronger hub would dictate stronger u-joints and axles. Then it might mean that the stronger hubs would break first. Still giving you a faster fix in the field. Food for thought.

rookieshooter... thats why i joined the boards...i'm sure there are test by ford on these but it's the field testing of the guys that drive them that counts...after the carnage i've seen on cv's and etc. i would still prefer to lose a hub...i think most people would install the better u joints as a given...way back when i used to do gear supply and broaching with a certification in metallurgy...when we designed custom parts and multi run parts we would wait on the feild reports of several trial pieces for confirmation and simple things like what would be the cheapsest easiest fix was also considered...farm equipment is also built this way...they have shear pins installed all over to save an expensive fix on the machinery...

you should post a poll on jeep versus ford replacement hubs and ask individually there breakage stories...i would be interested in hearing the replies too...

Good points tb. Shear pins in my outboard motors and trolling motors come to mind. Hopefully mine will be running soon and I can get some first hand knowledge.

I saw some pics where some Warn hubs broke and half the casing just broke off, not sure what forums it was, maybe on explorerforums..

Damn, I just realized this is the explorerforums...

RangerX also snaped an out axle shaft inside of a warn hub. We pulled it apart thinking we had a 5 min repair of a hub. Had to two wheel back out cause we didnt have a spare shaft and it was the end of the day anyway.

How about use the jeep hubs, have the stock shafts heat treted and then put some alloy dana 444 joints in the shafts. Will that now move the weak link to the ring and pinion?

i wouldn't want to be the one who had to fix that if it broke, whatever parts, lol...i think a few other things would break before the ring and pinion though

rock, i already sent you a reply pm...:D

I was wondering how those jeep guys do with those hubs. But that would be apples against oranges because of the weight difference. I'll be weighing mine soon. It will be interesting to see how much differecne there is between my B2 and some jeeps.
