hello every one

i was getting on the interstate in my 91, 5 speed and when heading into 5th gear it made a grinding noise and i was forced to stay in 4th. it also has been popping out of gear in 1st and 3rd gears. Could this be a clutch gone bad or a transmission in need of repair/replacement? any help is greatly appreciated.

I would lean towards the tranny. I can't see a reason why the clutch would have anything do with it coming out of gear. Or is the clutch just slipping and its not actually coming out of gear?

Sounds to me like a bad tranny too. I had a 1988 heep with a 5 speed did the same thing dropped out of 5th. Then about 50 miles later it stuck in 2nd gear. took it to a tranny shop and yep it was toast

Check your shifter linkages, seems like all the trouble gears are the ones on the top of the shift pattern
