Does anyone know how much is invloved or has anyone converted there auto v8 explorer to manual with manual transfer case not the auto button job.
I understand there's the transmission and related components getting the ecu tuned to run, pedal box but honestly how hard can it be.

There's plenty of landcruisers and patrols here in Oz that have a though enough gearbox

You would need to look for a 5spd from 4.6 or 5.4 equipped 97+ F150 same with the transfercase. 4406. I'm not sure what you will do for clutch pedal. Maybe a 2nd Gen one modified.

I helped my father put an auto into a manual 88 ranger years ago and we had to transfer computer and wiring harness for it to work right. Dont know if thats the case with this but someone should have an idea if thats the case.. If so its not a fun job.

Been reading the m5od-r2 came in ford rangers and mazda bt50s.
Might get one from a wreck with pedal box and clutch assy and get a bell housing made to suit

If any would work you would need one from a 4.6 or 5.4 f150. A 5.0, 4.2 4.0 all have a different bell housing. There is a SUPER rare 5 speed option in the 02 4dr XLS explorer, you MIGHT be able to source some of the petal and master cyl parts from.

I know there is some manual 3rd gens out there but very small numbers in Australia, but i want to have a manual transfer case aswell which the m5odr2 tranny will give me

Boomin is right, look for 02 xls clutch pedal assembally
You will need 97+ F150 4.6 engine equipped 5spd, Thinking about it you might get lucky and try 03 f150s computer also, but if not you can run your truck on stock computer it will throw codes, see what it does then you will need a tuner.

regardless its not that hard to swap the odler 01 and down stuff. I think tranny will fit fine in yours its the transfercase that you might have to take a big hammer and make room for.

The 4.2 is same bolt pattern is older 5.0
