hi all, 1st let me say I am not a car guy, as in I have no ability to fix most things on my own. luckily a good friend is mechanic. im asking questions here to get an idea of whats going to help him.
I have a 97 explorer, v8 , eddie b, awd. I got it 2 years ago used at about 164k, it now has 190k. I know the trans was changed but other than that I don't know anything else about what was done. I am also on the poor side, so not a lot of extra $$$$(like most).
1.half year back the truck was idling(parked) when I noticed the temp gauge pinned. turned it off , started it back up and all was fine.a month later a coolant leak starts on the pass side of the radiator(a quart a month or so),nothing crazy. I was unemployed so didn't drive It much. I also noticed a swishing sound when i would turn from what seemed like the pass side glove comp area, never wet though.. truck never acted funny. I put in the aluminum stop leak stuff yesterday and I don't know if its coincidence but the C.E.L. came on steady . any relation?
2. already have diagnosed bad steering pump(squeals). when I turn slightly and slowly it feels bound up(not in the actual steering wheel) and a clunking noise once in a while. does it in reverse as well, slowly and slightly turning. never happens going over 5mph while turning, it turns fine .
thanks in advance and sorry for the long post and the patience for a truck dummy, ha.
