My MC is leaking from the rear down the booster and I need to replace it. The Haynes book says I can't replace this at home - some special bleeding deal for ABS. I have a vacuum bleeder at home and have repalced many MCers on cars. Can I do this at home after I properly bench-bleed the MC and keep the lines full of fluid? What is the bleeding sequence? Thanks!

Yeah man, A discussion about this is already under way.
Look in "General Explorarations " Under the title
" Brake bleeding on a 96 w/ abs "
Or some thing like that.

Push comes to shove, swap out the master cylender your self and roll back it to a dealer for the bleed process.

You can replace the MC just like any other vehicle. The most important thing to remember when bleeding anything with ABS is to leave the ignition key off. As long as the ABS module isn't energized (key not on) the ABS system will not effect the bleeding process. Make sure to bench bleed the new MC and install as normal. Once installed (you need an assistant) crack both brake lines and push the pedal almost all the way to the floor (you want to try not to bottom the pedal out). Once the pedal is depressed tighten the fittings, release the pedal and repeat untill no air comes out of the fittings. Top off the MC and drive. If the pedal still feels spongy, try bleeding the brakes at the wheels (RR, LR, RF, LF).

I did a search, but it was just for bleeding after caliper replacement. I have a vacuum bleeder that works great. Yea, I was going to leave the system "open" by not trying to energize the abs unit. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
