MFT 2.8 dare I say? ... Rocks!

this is why I am certain that people who claim that their ipod experience with MFT is "great", have limited to no prior experience w/ these types of systems. The fact that the song resumes after a phone call is not something we should be thankful for. That's the least of the standard functions that ipod playback should have. I should be able to go directly back into the current playlist and browse smoothly as opposed to starting from scratc each time. I cannot emphasize how jaded i am because of this. I have such a huge problem with the ipod playback hat I haven't even gotten into the other issues I have with ths system. In hindsight, I wish I couldve leather seats w/o getting the sync system. I would've gone w/ an aftermarket unit and sacrificed use of the right cluster in exchange for a smoother interface. I also notice that the ford reps on this site usually have generic/non helpful responses to these outcries from loyal but jaded customers! :(

I agree with you 100%.
The only reason I got MFT was the leather seats.
Apple has shown us with the iPad that it's possible to present a fluid and flawless user experience for $500. Where small details matter. Navigating huge playlists, searching the map, etc. I honestly don't know where Ford went wrong. They had good intentions. They wanted MFT to be great. But they missed something.

Get over it man. Lots of people have different phones. Some work well with the system some don't. If you want to listen to music and not have to worry about all the crap your talking about. Go buy a lexar 8gb memory stick for 20 bucks. Works great. Use your phone for calling people. That's the problem now adays. How can you expect someone to put out an OS that is compatible with every phone IPOD and CRACKBERRY. OMG. Just kidding. I'd be pissed off if I were you. LOL.

Ya but hang on....its not like he's asking for something that Ford isnt marketing the hell out of, touting how well MFT will work with popular devices.

Everyone knows the best selling portable music player in history of electronics is the iPod, and the best selling smartphone is the iPhone. People line up to buy the newest iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Nobody lined up to buy a Blackberry Playbook.

Expecting the MFT system to give 100% functionality with these devices isn't being unreasonable.

Regardless if you hate Apple (wont drink the KoolAid) or not, if Ford is selling a "State of the Art" onboard multi-media system that claims to work with the worlds best selling portable electronics they better provide the functionality they promised or STFU!

Compromising or making excuses like "it's a new vehicle , just be patient" is beyond ridiculous. This system has been in development for years. Pre-production Explorers have been out to Ford staff for a year before public sales.

We shouldnt be the test pool, we paid for our vehicles, and paid a good buck.

Like many on the Explorations Forum, I work 44+ hours a week to pay for my Explorer and I don't want to spend my spare time troubleshooting an inferior product, or driving to the dealership to get told misinformation from someone who knows less about SYNC/MFT then I do.

The new Explorer is a good product but MFT is a feature that could end up being Ford's "Toyota floormat" legacy if they don't get it sorted out really fast.

I picked up mine yesterday and have absolutely ZERO problems with MFT, phone anything...so far, knock on wood! Well except my VIN number in SYNCmyride.com is invalid and they were busy and I suggested I come back when they were not, no big deal it all works and it just needs to be scanned or something they said.

That being said I agree with the prior posters 100%. It isn't just about me it is suppose to work like advertised for everyone which is exactly what Ford said it would do.

Perhaps Cory could point some people at Ford to this thread so those who are having problems can get help and we all benefit? The squeaky wheel gets the oil. ;)

I picked up mine yesterday and no problems at all. I was a bit scarred based on all of the posts about how complicated it is. Really no big deal at all.

Where is it written that these updates are free for a certain period? My dealer insists on a $70+ dollar install. Thanks in advance.

Here is a old post from our favorite CSR. Some people are saying you only get one upgrade no charge. It does not say anything about only one upgrade allowed. Waiting for Cory to find out.

Vehicle Specs

Hey friends,

Just some FYI in case you were not already made aware of this Customer Satisfaction Program. In some 2011 model year Edge and Explorer vehicles with MyFord Touch and MKX vehicles with MyLincoln Touch, various features associated with the MyTouch system may function erratically due to software issues. These features include, but are not limited to, touch screen, entertainment system, SYNC and SYNC Travel Link, Rear-View Camera, Navigation System, and voice recognition system.

In the interest of customer satisfaction, Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to improve overall system functionality by reprogramming the MyTouch system to the latest level free of charge (parts and labor) under the terms of this program.

This Customer Satisfaction Program will be in effect until January 31, 2012 regardless of mileage. Coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners. The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period. Please contact your purchasing dealer for further information and scheduling.

I hope this information is helpful to you. As always, please feel free to message me with any concerns or questions. Thank you.

Seni

I thought we were frustrated, holy crap, you should read some of the Edge Forum posters with their SYNC/MFT issues.

Brand loyalty is fading over there big time.

Im reading some of the information that shows the 2012 Gen2 SYNC is being released with v3.0 on the Focus so lets hope an all new v3.0 for us isn't too far off.

After watching the tupgrade, it looks like there are two parts. First part is with the computer (presumably to install base software), second part is using a USB drive. I'm wondering if having the USB files would be handy for "refreshing" the programs every now and then to work out the bugs. Kinda like my iphone, every now and then i do a restore and all is good.

My sales person drives an Edge, company provided, and when we went to the dealership for the official unveiling of the 2012 Focus Thursday, he said MFT is terrible in regards to responsiveness and was disappointed in Ford and couldn't believe they have not fixed it yet.

I told him to have service upgrade him to 2.8 and see if that helps. He really talked about the screen not responding to touches.

iPod died after MFT came back. So, I kept my appointment today. A few interesting things.

- From the 7 files associated with the MFT OS, 4 got wiped/corrupted with the crash. When the tech connected to my car, his system couldn't read the those files. He had to reinstall them. WOW!

- The update included the new Sirius channel lineup. VC now sends me to the new station locations.

- For whomever was questioning about how long does it take for syncmyride.com to update, it's immediate. I looked online about 15 minutes after I left the dealer and today's work was already in my history.

to be complacent with Ford's half-assed attempts to fix this flawed MFT system is a damn shame! The ipod playback alone is a deal breaker... lets say Im browsing a playlist (which already takes upwards of 10 secs to load them all) I choose a song and after its over if i want to choose another song (in the same playlist). instead of going right back into the recent playlist i have to go ALL the way back to Music/playlists/specific playlist and browse all over again. HORRIBLE!

Also... lets say again im browsing thru a playlist of lets say 200 songs... if i get a phone call (whether i answer it or not) i have to again begin from scratch witht he music/playlists/specific playlist. this is a nightmare...

from my experience w/ in dash nav/dvd/bluetooh/mp3 player units, they've all treated the ipod with special functionality where as MFT treats the ipod like any old USB storage device and thats a HUGE flaw. The ipod when connected should browse smoothly and quickly with the ability to navigate from various playlists in no time at all... Ford SERIOUSLY dropped the ball on this one and i pray every night for some genius out there to exploit some security flaw in the MFT system and perhaps develop a custom OS or rom that we could flash onto the hardware... it would be a dream come tru!

Wow it's not at all like that with my iPhone4. I'm running the latest iPhone update and will be able to see what version of sync I'm running tomorrow.

I can pick any song, playlist, movie (no video on Bluetooth) and it is instantaneous. When I finish a call it goes right back to the song or playlist.
I have well over 300 CDS on my iPhone.
All of my complaints are with apple. Apple iOS doesn't support bluetooth to export their gps or maps.

Whats your thought on reason for file corruption?

Bad install of v2.8?
Virus?

Usually the corrupting file causes the crash not the other way around.

id like to see video footage of your iphone browsing. I would provide the same. various playlists w/ hundreds of songs taking several seconds to scroll down. also when you want to browse for another song on the same playlisy, you will observe that instead of the interface bringing you right bacl to the same playlist you were just in, you have to start from scratch (music/playlists/specific playlist) it makes me crazy!

Just got our Ex back 2 days ago as some Sync Module went dead. Screen black, no control of anything. We had 2.4 and a pretty early Ex build date of last December. So everything has been replaced and they put 2.8 on. Wow. Huge difference for the better. So much faster and responsive. I thought things were pretty good with 2.4 but this is so much better. Only 2 days but if it stays like this. Perfect. We have had great luck with both of our Droid X's always staying connected and streaming music via blue tooth like a charm. Hopefully 2.8 gives us those same results.

I also asked about the Sync upgrades as a few people have been talking about it and being charged or what not. My dealer was shocked that people would be getting charged for that even if they didn't buy their truck at that dealer. He told me that I would never get charged for those upgrades as long as the car is under warranty.

Here is to a good 2.8 and beyond!

It will be interesting to see with the 2012 order bank opening next week if the 2012 models will get SYNC Gen2 v3.0

I would imagine everyone has this same experience. It drives me crazy too as there should be a "back" button that takes you back to the playlist you just chose.

Just got home from the dealer (had remote starter installed) and they also "fixed" my MFT issues. Allegedly they replaced "the module" - they could not elaborate, but judging from the receipt I think they replaced the APIM.
I didn't have enough time to test everything but it seems my random lockups, freezes and phone disconnects are solved. The system is still slow (no improvement in performance), but seems more stable.

The man said his Iphone works. Jeesh. Maybe it's your phone? Are your songs on your phone legal? Maybe there is some corrupted files on your phone? Could be a myriad of factors causing one or numerous algoryhtyms that maybe adversely affecting your My Ford Touch experience.

Greg- Could you let us know which version of the software your new module is running? I am due to take mine in to have the same module replaced- though my Nav has been functioning fine for the past week. If they are replacing the module I would like to make sure they do the software update as well.

Thanks.
