I have a question for everyone here. On your MFT screen does yours stay bright during the day and dim at night by setting it to Auto Dim On and the Mode set to Auto in settings? I have tried every combo of settings and can't get it to act correctly. It will go dim durng the day, not dim at night then do the opposite at times. I keep trying new settings but cannot get it right. Any suggestions?

Do you by chance have your headlights turned to "automatic"? The far right side of the dial setting. This MIGHT have something to do with it.

I've only had my screen dim in the daytime during a really dark rainstorm. But other than that it works just fine.

Have you tried a master reset, or removing your negative battery cable to re-boot the system? My service guy told me to try that anytime there is a "glitch" in the system before taking it into the dealer.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I always have my headlight switch set to auto. I live in sunny Florida so I don't think that is it. I guess I may have to try a master reset if all else fails.

This is something that you likely aren't looking for in your particular case but don't forget that there are also manual control buttons for dimming or brightening the MFT and dash lights. It took me a few minutes last night to recall that after fiddling around with the display screens for that function. :D

mine has never worked properly.

Set to auto it does dim when the lights come on but in order to dim it to where my instrument panel brightness is, I have to go into the menus and I have to press night.

I like it pretty dim for all the country roads where I live and even on the auto setting it still isnt dim enough.

That's why we need a screen off button on the home screen. To turn it back on all you would need to do is touch the screen again. There is an option to blank out the screen but it takes a few menus to get there. Having one at the center of the home screen would be great.

You can always post that as an idea on http://social.ford.com/

The auto dimming on our car almost works correctly. The thing that gives us problem is the dimming off-set, it never seems to remember to do that. If we go into the settings and fiddle with it, the screen will go to the proper lowest level brightness, but rarely will it do it on its own. Just another fun 'feature' of MFT :)

How do you turn the screen off?

Found it..thanks

I did a master reset and no change. Now it randomly dims the screen where I cannot see anything randomly after I receive a text message (when the alert that pops up on the screen goes away). Very frustrating.

If you haven't already done so, I'd take it to the dealer. Perhaps it is your APIM causing this trouble. I know that a blank/black screen is a sign the APIM needs replacing.

I agree with Peter, sdmcwilliams. I think it's time to make an appointment with your dealer to have them look at your MFT.

2013 MFT Problem

I have a similar problem but, my screen is not blank. It's very very dim. I just installed the latest software update as instructed by the Ford website. I've done this quite a few times since I purchased and never had a problem. This time, the first time I started it up the screen dimmed. I shut it down and restarted and it was fine. I drove down the street and it dimmed again. Now it going dim and relighting off and on. Is it possible this is caused by a inferior software update? Has anyone else experienced this same problem? Previous posts claimed a blank screen. Mine is just dim.

It wouldn't seem that a software update could cause this but stranger things have happened. It could be related to the APIM which really is the 'brains' of the MFT. You could try the procedure that is mentioned in the thread "MFT Acting Up?...." in the sticky section to see if that might clear it up. Other than that I would take it to the dealer. You could also PM Rebecca (FordIVTteam). You can use this link;

When you PM, be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership in your message.

After the update it's wise to do a master reset, this seems to clear up a few glitches in the upgrade process. Also, be sure there's not anything on your dash partially covering the "bulb" on your dash near the bottom center of your windshield.

Hi RobertAF,

I agree with Peter that this shouldn't be caused by an update; however, you can check your display settings by pressing the following on MFT:

Gears > DISPLAY

Check to make sure your Auto Dim Manual Offset is at zero. I believe Lewisra is also on the right track with his suggestions, and I'd like you to try a master reset. Here's a link to the instructions:

Let me know how it goes.

Rebecca
