millage per tank fill up

how many miles do you get out of your tank, my tank seems to drop when i park and not go back up and then ill end up needing gas, i feel it drops when i park on a hill and when im level again it wont go back up does any one know what this can be it seems when this happens i get alot less miles out of my tank of gas

if you loook under your truck, you will notice that the tank is long from front to back. whenever you park on an incline or decline or even on your driveway it will throw the fuel gauge off until you get back on level ground for a while. ive read that this is a notorious problem with these x's.

agreed with above comment, my taurus does the same thing, even on medium grade driveways. Ive seen it move by almost a fourth, it can take the gauge quite a while to "bounce" back.

Yeah the pcm takes readings for about 5 minutes and then averages them(to reduce the slosh false reading)
My 05 x and 04 taurus do it...
this is also why it won't move if you only get $5 bucks

Do you get a whiff of gas sometimes when you walk past your truck? how is the condition of your gas cap? Gasoline can evaporate quite quickly when not sealed air tight

Mine does that here at the house. I park on a slight downhill grade. Mine really don't correct till I stop somewhere level for a bit. Kinda a pain isn't it!

I get around 330 miles to the tank depending on how I drive. That's from completely full to running on fumes.

I usually get 330 to 350 depends on if I just drive that steep curvy road to work or if I make a highway trip somewhere.

If I take it easy I get a little over 250 and thats half highway... V6 as well. New plugs and wires, clean MAF, clean throttle body, K&N CAI with new filter. It baffles me.

My best is 434, I usually get between 370 and 415 if I let it go until my gas light comes on. On an around town tank no highway I'll get like 315. I've got the 4.0

I live in an area that would probably be classed as Semi-Rural. On average with standard 91 octane fuel without ethanol I get 320 miles to the tank, constantly running air conditioning. I have hydro-locked her once and have been told I have a lead foot.

My guage does that also but once im on the level it equalizes pretty quickly on our old windstar it would take hours for the gas guage to be right but if you park on a flat surface and cycle the key then the guage would be right immediately. going to check and see how many miles i get out of a tank of gas too, i know i got around 300 on the 1st tank when we bought it but still had a little over 1/4 when i filled up going to do actual mpg this time.

lol im lucky if on a little bit of highway driving and mostly city driving, I get 212 miles a tank. Havent filled up in ages though

are you driving mostly in the city? my x isnt so great in town but on the freeway i can go over 400 miles on one tank. gotta keep it under 60 mph though. the best i ever did on one tank is just over 500 before i modded mine out. it was a scary deal but it was quite a feat!

I use to get around 310 as what the gauge tells me, but recently I have not been able to hit 300 anymore. Went from 17mpg to 13. SUCKS!
