My son had the oil changed on his 2001 Explorer Sport (119,000 miles now)before he went on 400 mile road trip and then drove around town for another 3 weeks -about 1400 miles total. Yesterday I was driving the car and noticed a oil smell and opened the hood and found the oil cap was missing with oil all over the driver side of the engine and the hood cover. I am sure the tech at the local Goodyear store forgot to reinstall the cap. What kind of measures should my sonI demand that the Goodyear store manager take to ensure that my engine and other parts in front end have not been damaged by the mistake, besides fresh oil change and cleaning the oil off the engine, hood and front suspension and underneath car. We have owned car since new and have taken good care of car, including cleaning engine on regular basis. We want to be fair in this matter, but the oil looks a lot darker and some parts under hood could have been damaged and may not show up for a while. Thanks for anyone's valuable input.

Take it back, ask them to fix their mistake and clean the mess. Basically that's all you can do. Be professional and reasonable about your request and I'm sure they will take care of you.
