well I say we all band together kick this in the ass and have some freegin FUN!!!!! I and I know many others are going to be or have been saving to make this trip possible, there will be nothing I mean nothing that will ruin this trip for me. I agree with Gerald on his views on the "major" runs and it is after all a Serious EXPLORations run, it doesn't bother me to have other makes, but then like he said what if it starts getting overrun? Anyway I say do what we have to do, pay a small registration fee, help out with whatever you can whenever you can, these runs take tons of effort to orgnanize. We owe it to the guys that make this stuff happen to help no matter what! It is like studdedX (i think) said in the thread about becoming an Elite, look at all we have learned, saved, gained, and the fun we have had thanks mainly to Rick and then too others on down the line. Sure it may take a little bit of effort from everyone, but I say lets have some damn FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce:

Call me a pain in the a** if you like but I'm even worse than Ford platform biased for our runs, I think it should only be things that are built on the same platform as the X... But thats me...

And I whole heartedly agree with Gerald, if you wanna go with friends hit up those other runs, let them ride with you or tell them to buy an X!!!

I hope nobody minds me throwing my two-cents in here. Yes, I'm a Jeep owner and ,yes, I've signed up to join you guys on the Moab run. I completely understand your feelings on allowing other makes and respect your decision. This is an EXPLORER site and web community. But please understand that the only two guys I go 4-wheelin' with are Jeff (Explorer) and Jason (Isuzu). This is really my only opportunity to wheel Moab with my brother and a group of his friends. I've met many of you on the '01 and '02 Truckhaven runs and the '01 Moab trip when I've been riding shotgun and your group is much better than the other Jeep groups I've checked out. I have no problem staying out of the pictures, the videos, and the raffles. Stick me back at the end of the line, let the Explorer's watch the other Explorer's take their lines and flex those suspensions. (I love watching you guys!) I'll yell for a strap every once in a while and you guys can have a laugh!

Finally, a Jeeper that doesn't persistantly tell us how much Ecplorer Suck and how great Jeeps are. Welcome to the board my friend!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

You guys are really making this hard for me to vote either way.
Around here I have been running with a lot of the Jeep guys and they are really nice and they do the hard stuff. I don't have anything wrong with Jeeps, but it is fun seeing all our Explorer's at the meeting place in the morning.
Now if we let Jeeps go I might have to try and talk my co-worker into going.

Well, I'm not sure what I'll have when this rolls around..

But I do know, it won't be an explorer/navajo. They just can't be wheeled the way I want to wheel.

But hey, I love taking pics of explorers on the trail; a heck a lot better than jeeps!

This issue kind of killed the thread. We need to continue planning. I guess this year we won't be dealing with losing our identity since only a few non-Explorer/Ranger/Bronco types would be with us, so whaddya say if no one cares and our friends can join us? That way at least we can delay the debate another year. I would, however, like to make sure that the non-Explorer owners are aware that we would like certain photo ops with just Explorers in them. Certainly, that should be a reasonable understanding for the run.

Com'n, we have to move on. What do you guys think?

On another note, how many of you that have registered have sent Rick the $20 refundable registration fee?

Gerald, I have recieved a few checks. Should I put a list up on the sign up thread?

How about going to the Itinerary thread and bolding the participants that have paid? I just edited the participant list heading with "Paid registrations in bold"

Howzthatsound?

:D PS: My $20 is in the mail Dead Link Removed

No one is showing up in bold... Rick I paid last week with pay pal...

:(

Hey Rick,
I sent in my money, did you receive it yet? :)

Ok, I just updated the itinarary.

MORE trails after Moab?

I was thinking that if i am going to drive 900 miles each way to moab to wheel for 4 days why not add a few more days on as well assuming the truck is still functional :D I was thinking maybe hit a few trails in southwest colorado in the durango area or hit Farmington in Northwest New Mexico. I would like colorado but not a biggy eather way. I know nothing about trails in this area other then they have some good ones. Anyone interested in persuing this farther?

Matt

Rick: my money should be sent in the next few weeks.

Hey, I sent my money too!! :D

Man, I can't wait, this is gonna be a blast!

One thing to remember Colorado is a little higher (O.K. a LOT higher) so most of the trails in the Ouray area are still covered in that white stuff (snow for the Ca. folk)
I think last year Gerald or someone from the south was planning on doing the same but they found out the trails are closed until around July or Aug.
You might want to stay another day in Moab, just a thought.

Sorry to tell you this Perry, but Mount Whitney in the Serrias in California Is the Tallest mountian in the Lower 48 States at 14,494 Feet. :p
You must be talking to those South Cal people.

Matt, Perry is right, but you may have an option. Last year our Moab run was the weekend before Memorial Day (not after as this year's is). My son and I returned via the Ouray area and arrived the Tuesday before Memorial Day. Ouray is heavily dependent on 4wd tourism and tries to open the Alpine Loop pass by Memorial Day. No one in town knew how far the trail had been cleared though; not the city nor the two Jeep rental shops in town. The only way to find out was to attempt the trail ourselves the next day and find out.

Wednesday we tried to take the Alpine Loop. We made it up the Engineer Pass trail to Animas Forks ghost town and played there awhile. Continuing further, we went another mile or so up before catching the bulldozer plow and workcrew that was clearing the trail. Snow was a good two stories high there. They were hoping to clear the trail to the summit by the holiday weekend and meet another crew working the other side at the top.

I returned back to Animas Forks and tried Cinnamon Pass which was lower in altitude. It was cleared, so we made it all the way across, but it took a full day trip to finish.

Because Ouray makes such an effort to open the pass by Memorial Day, I believe you have an excellent chance at enjoying the full Alpine Loop after our Moab run this year, but go prepared in case it hasn't been fully opened.

That is the most famous trail in the area and will probably be the only one open, but it is awesome and worth the trip by itself. Poughkeepsie Gulch entrance off of Engineer Pass was 12-15 deep under snow and the same could be said for entrances to Black Bear Pass and others. I had run Black Bear the year before and knew exactly where the entrance was and still couldn't find it since all signs and landmarks at the entrance were under snow two stories high. If you've never been on the Alpine Loop and feel like driving over there for that one trail, I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Its not the only reason to head over that direction. My grand parents used to live in pagosa springs so i spent a lot of time there growing up. I wasn't thinking about all the snow problems though (must be that so cal in me :D ) Guess it might have to wait. digging my self out of snow and winching all day is not my idea of fun so I may have to wait on it. How about farmington they are a bit lower anyone up for that for a day or two of wheeling?

Matt
