I have a Volant cold air intake and the air feed hole on my truck is located right behind my head light and it's not very big so I'm thinking of trying to increase the amount of air that it's able to get by making a larger hole in my truck right of the head light and left of the radiator. Has anyone done this and will it have any real impact on performance?

Your air box looks different than the stock ones, but there is a topic/posts in the forum archives called "air box mod" that you can take a look at. It involves drilling out extra holes in the side of the stock air box to allow a greater air flow into the system. Just use the search box and look for 'air box mod". If I remember right, some said doing this mod made their Ex pull away quicker from a dead stop and the air intake sound of the engine changed a bit.

Keep in mind also that what restricts the air most in your setup isn't the hole behind the headlight but rather your throttle plate (by design of course). So I doubt you're going to have airflow issues even at wide open throttle...that setup you have now probably pulls more way air than the 4.0 even needs.

If you're worried about it pulling in too much hot air from under the hood, you can always widen that cutout behind the headlight and make a duct so there's no space in between the airbox and the hole. I'm not sure it'll matter too much either way though.

If your volant is like mine, you have the hole on the bottom too. It might be easier to run some tubing out there and into the grill or something rather than cutting your headlight mount.

Would changing the throttle body make a difference in the 4.0 engine? http://www.jegs.com/p/BBK-Performance-Products/BBK-Ford-Throttle-Bodies/747919/10002/-1 I've tried searching though and most things that I came across was for the 4.6L engines.

I look into that option later today, thanks!

I just noticed the hole when I took my filter out to clean, will figure something out how to connect to it.

Let me know how it goes. I always wanted to do something like what you're talking about using the bottom hole, I want to hear your ideas.
