i wanna put different shocks on my truck, though im gonna miss my bilsteins, the ride is just too rough for me, though the handling is probably one of the best you can get out of an suv shock.

i figure the sensatracs are relatively inexpensive and most people are happy with them, stating the ride and handling are good. theyre mid-grade shocks.

edelbrocks are probably a higher quality made shock, though ive heard good and bad about them, and they dont come cheap, which is what is making me a little leary of them. i dont wanna spend an assload of money on shocks again and have to swap em out in year because of a rough ride.

im willing to sacrifice some of the great handling i get from the bilsteins with a softer ride i would get from either of these 2 shocks.

i also should mention that i NEVER take this truck off of paved surfaces.

i started a thread about this a few days ago, but i prolly should have posted a poll, which is what im doing here. heres a link to the other thread:

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=62405&highlight=monroe

if anyone can give any comparisons or testimony, please do. also, i plan on installing the new shocks myself - this shouldnt be too bad with hand tools, right?..any tips would be appreciated (i havent checked out my haynes yet, but im assuming they wont tell me everything i need to know.)

thanks all.

When i was doing my research i went away from the IAS because of the bad things i heard. I heard they leak, now you can get them replaced if they are defective, but who wants to take something in and out.... i didnt feel like dealing with that so i went with the Monroe's

yeah, thats one of the reasons im a little hesitant about getting the edelbrocks. ive heard good and bad about them, but not many people complain about the sensa-tracs.

thanks.

I run the Edelbrock ISAs and have NO problems, The ride quality is fine and the handeling is exceptional.

I highly recommend them.

I'm lowered and I have Monroe Reflex shocks. I like them but if I had to do it again I would have picked up the edelbrocks for the front (the lowered ones) and the monroes in the back. I would like to have the front a little stiffer.

no problems with my Edelbrocks, they smoothed out the ride incredibly.

all you guys with the edelbrocks: how much more "comfortable" did the ride get? for example, when you hit a pothole, or go over a manhole thats about an inch lower than the surface of the pavement, does the whole truck go "BA BOOM!"? i understand that theyre also built for handling, but my bilsteins are really sensitive to anything that i run over; i dont wanna feel every little bump in the road.

in another thread, hartman said that shocks are a very personal mod to decide on, and hes absolutely correct, the problem is, you cant go buy 3 or 4 different sets, try em all, and then decide. if i get the edelbrocks from performance products though, i can always return them if im not satisfied, but that means that i have to take em off and install another set (prolly the sensa-tracs at that point.)

another thing that could be part of my problem is that i have 60 series tires on my truck (at stock height), though my factory amount of sidewall was 7.0" and now its 6.7", so i dont think thats a major difference - i think the shocks are what my main issue is.

thanks.

my 94 sure as hell went Ba Boom! when it was stock, but not after the Edlebrocks. With the edelbrocks on the body doesn't shake and rattle like it did stock, and it was like a night and day difference when I had them installed. Better cornering, smoother ride, no more floatyness on the highway or after hitting a bump.

My mom just ordered the Edelbrocks for her Mounty. She got me mine last year when I said I needed new shocks, she ordered them through a performance store here and then we had Mienike (sp?) put them on. I think she got them for about $80 a shock and Mienike (sp?) only charged her $30 to put them on.

I think I said this to you in another post but a friend of mine had Bilsteins on his Eddie Bauer with Cobra rims and it was pretty damn harsh, I got him to order the Edelbrocks and he was suprised after he put them on. Rides better than stock and handles awsome with those shocks and the Cobras. Theres almost no body lean for an suv.

i think you did right by the Monroe's up front... i'm pretty sure the Edlebrocks are a more absorbant shock then the Reflex's .. at least that what i found in my research... than again what do i know.. all i konw is that my truck bounces around all over the place.. lol

Are you talking about the ones for lowered explorers? I've heard that they were designed to be stiffer because of the truck being lowered. Ya know, to limit the travel to keep from hitting the bumpstops.

Aldive.... Do you ever hit the bumpstops up front? How much did you lower the front? I do occasionally and I think if I had the edelbrocks, I wouldnt as much.

! 3/4" I think, No they have never hit and I have stock, uncut, bumpstops.

Yeah, I'm only lowered a 1/4" more than you and I took a 1/2" off my bumpstops. I guess I shoulda got the edelbrocks for the front.

well, i think that statement right there just made my decision for me ;) AND performance products just sent me a coupon for 15% off if i buy before 11/17 ;)

well, if i decide to actually get new shocks (right now im about 90% leaning towards it), im gonna get the edelbrocks. i just got off the phone with performance products, and i can get all 4 for $238 and if i dont like them, i can send em back within 30 days for a 100% refund, though, the rears are on backorder for about 3 weeks, and hopefully i can get some decent bank for my bilsteins when i sell them.

to add to it, i have the lowered edelbrocks and i love em. had them for about 8 months now, and theyre still in great shape/no leaks. if you are lowered, there is no better IMHO.

Whats the difference between the regular edelbrocks and lowered ones? I'm mean what would be wrong with running regular edelbrocks on a lowered truck?
