well my brother dropped my truck off at my buddies shop to get my exhaust finished and my RB 3/2.5 spacers installed. then if it gets done buy the end of this month the hood is getting chopped up and modifed. kinda like a ram air 4 inch cowl hood. expect pics soon haha i know i'll be getting asked about them.

thats a pretty sweet hood, cant wait to see some pics

not too bad, hopefully it turns out as an easy mod. I'm going to be doing the same with mine. except it's just a 3.5 in cowl

HEY! I recognize that. That's for a 93-97 Firebird! Thought of getting one for my 97 Trans Am, wound up going with a stock style ram air hood though. (no longer own car)

Hope you aren't going with that tall 4" cowl... too big! Maybe 2" would look OK.

yeah i'm going with 4 inch. i might play with a custom setup under the hood plus its not gonna be a slap on and rivet on fiberglass scoop its being made of all metal.it will make it look kind of like the superduty cowl hood

OK, i got to see this cant wait for pics

I saw a hood like that on a firebird out here, it was HUGE!!! Didn't like it(overshadowed the car) But on an ex that's lifted, I am sure it will look good. I have an idea that I want to do for the hood, but it's aluminum and I don't have an aluminum welder. What are you doing for the exhaust?

Edit- After looking at the hood pic again, I was wrong. It was a newer WS6 Firebird that had a 4"+(over stock) hood. Looked like a stock hood, jus 10x's bigger.

i bought the saleen f150 tips a few months ago and never got them installed. my old exhaust setup was dropped 2 cats the dual 40 series mufflers into and x pipe the came out the rear. now i'm getting the saleen tips cut into the rear bumper right behind the rear tires below the side marker light. then the exhaust has to be re routed to the tips. then the rear bumper is getting re sprayed and cleaned up from when i cut the bumper for the body lift.
this was the original hood that i wanted but then i'm looking at many hours and lots of $$$

this is a better pic of the hood i wanted made

just to give ya'll an idea

basically the front scoop opening are gonna be wider almost like the super duty hood but the openings aren't gonna be as high then its going to roll up to the cowl.

cant wait for pics.

you should go with a GT500 Supersnake type hood.. i love those.

I love it... If there were one for an explorer like this Id have it.... you have more guts (and $$) than I right now..

If I was still living at home I might give a project like this a go... with the help of my dads cousin... he does this stuff all the time. Check out his Corvair. he converted it to a V8 which now sits in the rear seat area.
Because of this he needed a radiator up front, but the Corvairs had no grills originally, so he took the stock hood and made induction.....did all the work himself...mechanical, body and paint. Even tig'd together the cover for the motor. Figures he has $40k worth of labor in the whole car.

that corvair is sick. def. looks like he put the time in!!!!

oh yeah i like tinkering with my vehicles so much that i bought a fold up bike from an iraqi store and you can probably guess what happened. it BROKE not even a week after i bought it so thats going up the knife also. 80cc 2 stroke motor is getting mounted up with a custom fabbed "springer" front end and widened rear. i'm losing my mind over here.

basically i'm on a time schedule with the mounty mods because i don't really wanna drive down to OC maryland with no hood. i need it all done before the 12th of july. i told my buddy at the shop to just do the hood whenever he got free time so he wouldn't really charge me as much sooo...

Loving the superduty style hood. MUCH better than the firebird setup. Good luck and we will be looking forward to some pics!!!

The hood is aluminum, so you're gonna need a very good body man to mate aluminum to steel. Unless you buy an aftermarket hood from a crash parts company, and go from there.

I was thinking how Id do it...(and Im no body shop guy)
Id need 2 hoods (steel if you can get them)

One would be the base structure
The other would donate its skin to make the top portion of each scoop.
Then cut long triangles to give the scoops height.
weld, hammer, dolly, grind, weld, grind, dolly, hammer, weld and grind some more to round the edges of the hole in each scoop.
Skim it out in bondo

Or if you were good enough to just cut the sides and front of each scoop you could similar triangles to give each scoop height. Then they'd be functional
Make up some fiberglass "tunnels" from each one to the air filter location and you got your self some ram air!

dude, thats freaking sweet!! are you having it blue printed? i might copy your design!. BTW your better think about doing somthing else with your two weeks of leave bud, it took me two weeks to swap my motor out...and your going to be putting yours togeather with a whole new short block...so that would add a couple days as well, if you want give me a shout before you start so i can give you a couple heads ups on the swap, i might actualy do a write up for the site.

i'm not touching the motor till i come home at the end of this deployment. i have 3 months off with not work so i'm just move into the garage for a few months. well i don't know if the supercharger is going to be mounted on the on the 5.0. my buddy just put a custom twin turbo setup on his mustang and has alot of extra parts. i'll post some pics of his work the car is amazing. he has about 7 years of working every night on the stang.

well it went to the shop over the weekend and today they went to put it on the lift. well just my luck the lift broke!!!! hydraulic leak and its down for the count. so the RB spacers will be getting installed but they can't get it off the lift till the guy comes to fix the line. oh well just hope everything is done in time.
