Mounting / Wiring Radar Detector

Just got my '15 XLT in the garage today, and one of the first things I did was rewire up the Escort 9550ix.

All but the OCD of folks would be picky, but I thought it turned out pretty well.

Rather than buy a $30 piece of 16 gauge wire that's 8 inches long with "nano" terminals, I've had very good luck with these on my adventure motorcycle, and decided to tap into the light blue/white and black auto dim mirror wires using "positaps"

I joined thanks to this thread right here as I was able to hardwire my Escort 9500ix even with no electrical experience. The diagram posted earlier really helped. Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the Forum FarmDee.:wavey:
Happy motoring and Happy New Year!

Sure thing FarmDee. The only problem is radar detectors are gonna be obsolete sooner than later due to even the least expensive cars getting options for Blind Spot Assist, etc. which makes ALL radar detectors continuously alerting. Audi's are THE worse. They have a strong radar-1/4 mile away and my X50 goes crazy, than stops, goes crazy, than stops.

I pass cars all the time that have blide spot assist and my detector does not go off. Did I miss a post with that info? I would be very surprised if blind spot assist used the same Ka band that my detector is looking/scanning for. I'm not saying it's not possible I just have not seen any info.

If you could share more info it would be much appreciated

Valentine1’s have a filter built in to combat the lane-change, or blind-spot, warning systems. These often use weak K-band radar to "see" other vehicles nearby. Valentine calls it the Junk-K Fighter. It was created to exclude mobile sources of unthreatening K signals. (You need to activate it.) The Junk-K Fighter is paired with another software feature, Traffic Monitor Filter, and they both turn on with the same software switch. You can also custom tune your Valentine either by pushing the volume button in a specific sequence or by linking into Valentines Bluetooth app. Valentines are also upgradeable to keep current with new technology and performance breakthroughs.

Yeah I have researched the V1's info. Thanks for explaining how V1 does a good job of preventing this issue to the rest on here. I have been a fan of the 8500 X50. I have three vehicles which have one mounted via BlendMount. They have saved my butt numerous times. I just don't like the looks of the V1 enough to keep me from braking or slowing down as often from false alarms. To me, it looks like a radar detector I had in the 80's in which I had to turn a knob to increase or decrease the sensing ability of the unit.

Thanks for sharing the fact it took you 20sec, that helps
But newer dectectors like my escort smart radar detector have filters also and the vid refers to the V1. So it's really not the same for all dectectors. I also use my waze app. And use both forms of information but in my book nothing is. 100%. I got my dectector after a $400 ticket and have learned my lesson. im not really a big speeder but got caught off guard. I also believe in fair play if they get the radar gun I get a radar dectector :chug:

Why a Radar Detector?

Why not just follow the speed limit? Maybe 5 MPH over. How much time are you really going to save? And at what cost?

I use mine-- as I use Cruise Control-- to help and remind me NOT to speed (and speeding in my twin turbocharged 2013 Explorer Sport where 65 mph is at the 9 o'clock position on the speedo is WAY too easy to do.)

Also we have highways in this area that change speed limits very frequently-- even though the surrounding countryside looks unchanged. And it is heavily patrolled. It is very easy to miss a speed limit change. A radar detector will at least warn you that you better check your speed.

52 years of driving and 1 speeding ticket. I think it was $45 or something like that. No radar detector.

Well done.

In California-- where speeding laws can be very strictly enforced by highly motivated and greatly numbered police officers working in strategic locations-- that ticket would have cost you a LOT of money, not to mention increased insurance rates.

Gotta fund our near-bankrupt government, you know...

This post greatly helped me out with installing my Escort 9500IX and smartcord. Thank you to everyone who contributed (positively) to this thread.

Yep OKExplorer-positively is the key word. No matter what car, truck, performance vehicle forum you are on, there are always asshats who have to give their two cents about not speeding, etc on radar detector threads.

Glad the information helped.

haha "asshats" I learned me a new word today! So true and too funny! LOL!

lolol for every study there is a counter study.
Speed Kills - The faster the speed of a vehicle, the greater the risk of an accident. The forces experienced by the human body in a collision increase exponentially as the speed increases. Smart Motorist recommends that drivers observe our 3 second rule in everyday traffic, no matter what your speed. Most people agree that going 100 mph is foolhardy and will lead to disaster. The problem is that exceeding the speed limit by only 5 mph in the wrong place can be just as dangerous. Traffic engineers and local governments have determined the maximum speeds allowable for safe travel on the nation's roadways. Speeding is a deliberate and calculated behavior where the driver knows the risk but ignores the danger. Fully 90% of all licensed drivers speed at some point in their driving career; 75% admit to committing this offense regularly.

Consider this example: a pedestrian walks out in front of a car. If the car is traveling at just 30 mph, and the driver brakes when the pedestrian is 45 feet away, there will be enough space in which to stop without hitting the pedestrian. Increase the vehicle speed by just 5 mph and the situation changes dramatically. At 35 mph, with the pedestrian 45 feet away and the driver braking at the same point, the car will be traveling at 18 mph when it hits the pedestrian. An impact at 18 mph can seriously injure or even kill the pedestrian.
😂🤣😂
