No it shouldn't need to be broken in. Likely you have a clamp that has loosened up or settled. Retighten the clamp unless you like the extra loud sounds it provides. The clamps on my Borla loosened up a bit after I installed it. Once I tightened them it sounds much better now. The smell will go away after a few days to a few weeks.

nope, no clamps... the louder sound is flowmaster and not an exhaust leak. trust me i have had them before:( my system is welded on...someone told me that they have a kinda adjusting to being used period though and it sounds a lot better today maybe its me :smoke:

The sound of your exhaust will also change with the weather, maybe the weather was really different between the days?

hey alec, it has been sunny both days and around 70+ degrees. so does the muffler have a breakin period or no?

Naw, muffler's don't have a break in period. The only ones I have ever heard of being 'broken in' was the old Thrush glasspacks and that was more like waiting for the glass to fuse so they were basically straightpipes.

cool thanks jdraper

No break in period for a muffler? What about seating the muffler bearings?

Oh yeah, forgot about that. You also have to make sure to top it off with coolant so it doesn't overheat.

Very funny guys, i my question was a real question tho, hahaha lol :)

when mufflers get louder it is usually because they are failing.

maybe i am just getting used to hearing it
it is actually a lot louder than i thought. i like it
