I was just curious to see what you guys thought would be a good muffler. I have the 4.0 and want to get a little more rumble out of it. What do you guys (and Gals) think I should go with, Cherry Bomb, Flowmaster what? I have 2 kids and want them to still be able to here the TV (that is going in next week) when at high way speeds. If I go with a dual exit muffler I will have them dump the exhust, both on the passenger side.

I'd go with a Magnaflow for a mix between a nice rumble and still being a bit quiet. A cherrybomb will sound like $h!t. A Flowmaster will probably be a bit loud for your taste. I'd go with a Magnaflow and single 2.25 or 2.5" piping. The dual will just complicate things, make it more expensive, and maybe lose too much backpressure.

kewl

thanks for the advice Alec. I know alot of people would tell me to run dual because it looks cool and stuff. but i really appreciate the advice. :D

want duel? Get a Flowmaster 50 delta-flow (delta is the even mellower version of the 50) and then get it single inlet duel out. Or even better, get single single, with a duel out tip. I like the duel out look, but the 4.0 its hard to do and keep enough back pressure. I have a hard enough time as it is with my single. (if you dont have enough flow, mufflers tend to fart. At least mine does.)

I have the Flowmaster Force II catback system (SUV series non-delta 50) and it sounds pretty good. Not too loud on the outside and pretty quiet inside.

The force II's are supposed to be one of the louder ones.

I had the cat back Flowmaster system from Dead Link Removed on my '92, and it was hardly noticeable at highway speed, until you put your foot in it. It never intruded too much on the passenger compartment. As for single vs. dual, a single 2.25" exhaust will be sufficient. If you go with duals, you will probably lose some low end torque. If you want the look, go with dual tips like Flyguy said.

Thats what I like about my 50. its nice n mellow at driving and idle speeds. But when your start it up or lay on the gas, you get a nice mean growl. Youll still turn heads when you want. :)

I'm with Flyguy on this.

The Flowmaster 50 DF is a good compromise with no resonance at highway speed. V6's don't sound that good without the backpressure. Isn't there some place that has sound bites of the different Flowmaster sounds?

I think some people posted wav files here at one point... dunno if they are still around though

Thanks for all the advice gentlemen. I think i may go with the 50DF. One more question, I was thinking about getting a high flow cat, Would that cut out too much back pressure? :bounce:

I would go 50 series, delta flow, single/single without a duel tip.

I don't think a high-flow cat would be a good mod. I don't think you would even feel the difference.

Ford uses fairly high-flow cats, especially on the later models. My cats were tested for flow when I installed my headers, and they flowed as much as my headers were rated for.

Flowmastermufflers.com or flowmaster-mufflers.com One of the two. Anyways, if you go there you can hear the different mufflers.
