VB kit? You're refering to my kit right? It came with a lot a springs and small parts and plates. (Seperator Plates?)

I used the Transgo kit in my rebuild and I couldn't be happier with the way it shifts. Well, I wouldn't mind a 3-2 shift that happens a tad sooner, but everything else is perfect. I used a combination of their offerings to get what I wanted. It shifts nice and clean in normal driving, but really sets hard at heavy throttle. I also didn't use the 2nd gear start feature.

I am a little concerned about how the converter locks up. That isn't the cleanest shift in the world. I need to look into that some and see if I can help that out some.

Would you mind explaining about the TC locking up?

The TC control is all in the TC solenoid, fluid pressure and VB. Ask James if anything in the PCM affects that.

The tune changed the fluid pressure valve, in the shift kit there's usually a bypass valve for that.. so it would be 'ignoring' the tune's setting.... from my understanding...

Anyone know more?

Install the whole kit and the Sonnax special update parts if you got those. With it together you can decide whether it needs any fine tuning with the PCM. Take it easy and enjoy it.

Man... it's tomorrow... today and... they're taking Forever... called around 11am... they said they're putting the VB back together... called around 12-1 and they said they needed to get a new filter
wtf is goin on?

You must not be high on their priority list because it's what...3 hours to install that kit with the trans in the car? That's an hour to R & R the valve body and 2 hours to do the mods. In a shop with the right tools and a hoist, that should be a gravy job.

It's done, and wow.. Pretty nice improvement. Jerks me back a little bit when it shifts. Next upgrade is headers.
New DS is in also.

I need to replace the passenger side cv axle and driver's side hub assembly though.

What do they mean by driver controlled shifts as a feature? Meaning shift with the shifter or what?

Yes, that's for advertising to people who like to shift themselves. It may very well stay in any gear you manually choose, that is the claim. I never tried fourth gear, I recommend that you don't try 4th at WOT.

You should love the automatic shifting when you merge into traffic from on ramps.

I don't get it though... It's PRND21... how do you get to 4th? and D would be 3rd, right?... I am so confused.

Yes, the advertisement is misleading, people don't think of the few gear choices. You can hold it in 1st or 2nd at any speed, so be careful about shifting down if you are going to fast.

These OBDII PCM transmissions have better control of shifting, so when tuned right you should be happy to leave it in "D." Drive it a while and fine tune the shifting if it needs it, with the PCM.

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand... I could "hold" it in those gears no matter what???? And I could manually shift before too. Are they just saying.. the transmission is more "tuned" to this kind of use? I would downshift before too.. not 2 to 1 [not much anyways] but mainly 3-2 by shifting into N and revving to whatever rpm depending on how fast I was going and then shifting into 2.. I can do it pretty fast.. pretty nice when out of town... windy roads and downhill crap... engine braking is nice.

Before the older transmissions would not stay in the manually selected gear if the rpm got too high, including downshifts. Ford may change things through the years. Generally you can stick most Fords in 1st gear at 100mph, and it will not allow it into 1st until the speed drops enough.

With the TransGo HD kits do not assume that the trans will keep you from over revving the engine. Likely whatever gear you choose at any speed may get you that gear. Take it easy with how you manually shift it, it should go to what ever you choose, and stay there.

Again, if the shift tuning is done right, you should never need to shift it manually. Set the gear changes at the ideal WOT speeds, and let it do the work. It will shift faster automatically, plus more consistently.

Can someone take a picture of the 4R70W transmission mount?

I have the part, I just need a picture of it installed... of how the transmission sits on it, and which bolts are where..
