i have a 93 exp and when you push the button for four high it works fine but you press the low then it completly takes it out of 4x4 i put it in neutral and held the brake and then pushed it and it still dosnt work.has anybody heard of this and has anybody made and conversion kit to manual lock in like a cable mount?

Probably the electric motor is not engaging 4-Lo for you. Search for the overhaul procedure on here. As for conversions those who want manual go with the manual BW transfer case and a lever.

I went through the whole 4 low not engaging problem. After rebuilding the shift motor once and then again a few months later to make sure it was right, I ended up swapping the motor with one from a donor rig and that cured the problem. One last time I went all through the shift motor trying to find an electrical failure, everything seemed fine. I was happy to find one in an abandoned vehicle at my neighbors property, got it for free. I also took the 4x4 module box to see if that was the issue, didn't fix it for me. hope this helps.
I 've never heard of a manual shift upgrade, only a t-case swap to a manual unit.

I have heard of people using a brake biasing cable to turn it manually from the cab-- but it takes a zillion turns and is a pain. Rebuild the motor, or replace it. Works much better. :-)
