got a question jd. you went to pick-n-pull right? ive been eyeballing rear ends there.... how do you take it off? they dont allow jacks or anything. you just unbolt it and let it fall?

im trying to get something for now, like limited slip or something atleast. along with a lift
 






Yep its a two man job for sure.if you just want a ls i have two.one in my old rearend and one out.but the rearend is 3.73. You could just snag a front pig and swap to 3.73 thats a one man job and would be cheaper.you could do shackles and f150 seats real cheap

if the gears dont match i just wont use 4x4 for now. so your ls 3.73 will fit in the 2nd gen rearend?
theres someone selling a 4" lift(you replied to the thread). i want to get it. and soa the rear. at some point get a d44 (solid or ttb (most likely solid)) and of course get it from a truck thats not full width either
 






Yea there fit but 3.73 are everywhere.i was just saying if you was doing it just for a ls and not disc you could use my whole old rearend and you would just have to get a front pig,not both,cheaper and could be pulled yourself!
 






the one in your garage i saw? its ls 3.73? you already have the perches setup for soa to dont you? thats even better! already off, soa ready, decent gearing for now. all itd need is paint and a clear diff cover!
i know most people just get a 2nd gen rearend, but would it be hard to convert the 1st gen one to disc brakes?

if yes to everything, how much you want for it?
 






Yea its 3.73 ls but the ls would need to be rebuilt, its worn out.its setup for stock,i used the soa on my new axle.
 












you would just need a rebuild kit not the whole ls.you dont have to weld them on,mine aren't
 












It would be cheaper just to grab a 3.73ls from the junkyard.if you ever want disc brakes thats what i would do from the start
 












Good luck on finding 4.10s also that means you have to buy new front gears and have it set up as the first gens didnt come with 4.10s.i would stick to 3.73.if it was me i would just buy an aussie and throw it in yours till you decide what tires,front axel and gears you will be running down the road.
 






im gonna get a narrow d44 for the front and keep the 2nd gen 8.8 in the back, wheel spacers/adapters to change lug pattern and widen it some to match d44.
gears i have no idea, prob 4.88 for 35s?
main thing is i want disc brakes for the rear so i cant keep mine.

im not really worried about matching the front gears, i just wont use 4x4. but if i get 3.73 then i guess id match them
 






how about a locker?i would just grab a 2nd gen with 3.73 gears and ls and take your open carrier out of your old one and hold onto it.if you get 3.73 rear,and pull your front pig off and give it to me a couple of days before i do my gears in the front.ill just set your up with my 4.88s and locker and throw it on my truck then you can have my old pig with the 3.73 to match your rearend.thats all if you can go a couple of days without driving.

i guess 3.73 sounds good then if i swap fronts with you. you can keep my open one to sell if you want then. since youve helped me out so much.

when are you doing this? cause im trying to figure out money for the front lift also. how much is the axle at the junkyard?
 






Nobody would buy a stock front diff.dont quote me but $150 for rear.i have most of a kit for the front just not drop brackets.see how much pivot drop brackets are.ive changed my mind again,im getting jd eb springs and the dual shock buckets and shocks next week.so ill have springs,ra drop brackets and a steering arm ill be trying to get ride of.im not doing front gears for awile.by time you do a lift and swap rear ends ill be ready to do gears
