My A4LD rebuild (no Forward only Reverse)

1 to 2 shifts are working!

The Governor valve was sticking.

Video to show what it looks like when the Governor sticks:

What a new, freely moving governor valve looks like:

That's good news, a fairly easy fix!

The explorer has been sitting for a bit while I've been working on welding in new rockers and dog legs. I've hardly driven it since putting it all back together. (like ~100 miles) The shift issue seems to be back, now it seems to be acting up only when cool then shifts ok after to warms up a bit.

It just doesn't want to leave 1st, It'll be in D or OD and revving to high hell and I'll have to move it into 2 to get it to shift then put it back to D.

I'm wondering if the Gov is sticking then as the metal expands in the heat it frees up. I'm going to pull the tail off and check it and while I'm there put the stock weight back in as 080 suggested.

Thinking I might also put a pressure test gauge on the side port and see what readings it gives.

*edit* I'm also wondering if my new intermediate servo might not be working... would 2nd gear work with the lever in 2 if the servo was bad? (maybe a nicked edge I didn't notice) or would there be absolutely no second get if the intermediate servo was bad?

I am currently rebuilding a 4R55E, basically the same. My rear sprag end caps are a little worn and I am not having any luck finding them. Where did you get yours?

I got some of my parts from Cobra Transmission.

You talking about the part in the upper right corner of this photo?

Its a Sonnax part, I saved all the baggies for future reference so I'll pull that bin out and let you know what the part number is.

To follow up on my trans, I went back to the stock governor weight and its been running great ever since.

Parts

Yes, the one in the upper right corner. I have had issues finding it. Looks like they were discontinued in 2013. If you can get me the part number that would be very helpful. Thanks so much.
